Meet the Chef

Jacqui's career began as an apprentice at About Life, before joining the ranks at Merivale. She then worked under Christopher Whitehead at Mad Cow and Lauren Murdoch and Sebastien Lutaud at Felix, before gaining her first head chef role at Xanthi. After a short break from the kitchen, Jacqui joined NOMAD in 2013. Drawn to hands-on processes as well as working with the wood-fired oven, Jacqui now oversees the menu which focuses on Mediterranean-style share dishes and house-made produce.

Unfortunately there was fire in the restaurant and it was temporarily closed until mid October. Putting review as 5 for neutral.

The bread is amazing!! The waiter will probably tell you that too if you ask for recommendations because our one did. This was my second time at Nomad and the food doesn't disappoint. It can get quite loud in the restaurant though. We visited just before the unfortunate fire incident.

Absolutely loved the Nomad feast we had here. The food was amazing and the service impeccable. Big shout out to our sommelier Cy who made inspired and delicious wine suggestions to accompany our food and Dave our waiter who accommodated a last minute dietary request to the menu . Best meal and service we have had in a long time.

Most innovative Mediterranean inspired cuisine, beautifully presented. The vibe is busy, modern. We enjoyed the feast option.

I enjoyed the degustation here, the starters and mains I preferred to the dessert. The table next to us was fussy about their food and dissatisfied and they were close to us which detracted from the experience

About the restaurant

When NOMAD first opened its doors in 2013, their aim was to bring together the best of Australian wine, produce and design in the heart of Sydneys' Surry Hills. Situated in a turn of the century warehouse with a large open central kitchen and bar, NOMAD is all about bringing together family and friends in a laid back yet beautiful atmosphere.

Their team of chefs work with the best local producers from around NSW and Australia, while their extensive wine list celebrates Australia’s diverse wine community, with a list that spans the length of the country, showcasing the best small growers, producers and winemakers. From their freshly baked sourdough, brioche, lavosh and flatbreads to their own charcuterie and cheese rooms, the restaurant prides itself on house-made produce. Head chef, Jacqui Challinor’s menu is designed to share and is strongly influenced by Mediterranean and Middle Eastern flavours, featuring specialty dishes such as their Cannellini Bean Hommus or NOMAD Jersey Milk Haloumi.
