    This an excellent family run restaurant. The service is smooth and friendly. They are very helpful to non-Portuguese speaking customers. The key point is that the food is excellent and the prices are reasonable.

    Some dishes were better than others (there were 8 of us) but the welcome and service were excellent. Compared to many similar places I have eaten in Portugal this is a little on the expensive side. However I would go back.

    The best meal we had in 13 days in Portugal: from entering to leaving the restaurant we were warmly and graciously taken care of by our wonderful hostess and her family. The food was a partially traditional and partially new approach to Portuguese cuisine - a perfect balance without pretention. Many dishes I had not seen on menus here or in Porto but had read about. Delicious sauces and preparations. Wine list and recommendations were perfect as well. This restaurant was started 70 years ago and grandma still presides quietly from the family table near the kitchen. Go!

    A very pleasant and tasty experience! The owner explained the menu with lots of flavour and these were perfectly correct....all in English. Great place to eat!

About the restaurant

O Histórico Laranjeira Uma casa antiga, junto à Praça da República, no centro histórico, perdura já por três gerações, a Pensão Restaurante O Laranjeira. Para além dos quartos originais, o edifício histórico acolhe o referenciado restaurante de cozinha tradicional.

O sr. Francisco Laranjeira e D. Maria - Vó Micas – chegaram a Viana em 1946 e a família conta ainda hoje a sua história, relembrando costumes e tradições.

Como o restante ambiente que se vive, também o restaurante é familiar e acolhedor, com a gastronomia tradicional de entradas como Gambas salteadas em azeite, alho e limão, Papas de sarrabulho, pratos como Bacalhau à Gil Eanes, Arroz caldoso de tamboril ou Rojões à moda do Minho e Bife de novilho. Não faltam as sobremesas como Pêra Bêbeda ou Maçã Assada.
