A Cairns gem. Great food that showcases local food in imaginative but entirely approachable ways. The service was knowledgeable and attentive. Wine list catered for almost all budgets. Very good value given the quality and flair on display with this cuisine.

Loved it. Did have to wait as staff was limited but a beautiful experience.

Sad that such an excellent restaurant tolerates obnoxiously loud, large tour groups to enter with those of us wanting a quality meal in a pleasant environment. The entry of a 20-25 person tour group ended up causing us to wish we had never gone there - would certainly never go there again if the opportunity arose.

Great atmosphere, choices on the menu, service. A nice venue for a mother & daughter for Mothers day.

Service was absolutely terrific. The waiter was also very helpful in the choosing of wines, and we ended with great pairings. Bread with oil and freshly crushed spices was served before the entree. Super aromatic, but the bread was not up to par. Tasteless, dense texture and soft crusts. The entree was amazing. Pieces of pork belly was served along with scallops. Surprising, but delicious combo. The pork was perfectly prepared. Tender, with sticky fat and a comfortably crunchy surface. We had grilled tuna for the main course. It was also expertly prepared and accompanied by a nice combination of sweet, salty and savory sides. Huge portions. For dessert we had pavlova with a sorbet. The pavlova was kind of weird and spongy, and it was served in ridiculous amounts. The sorbet was delicious, and it could’ve worked with a smaller amount of pavlova. Maybe one to one with the sorbet. All in all it was a good experience, and the value was great. Lots of food, superb service and a nice locale. Minor adjustment to the food would’ve lifted Ochre to amazing heights.

About Ochre Restaurant

Go native Ochre Restaurant has been wowing Cairns locals and tourists alike for more than 20 years with its fresh take on local produce that manages to showcase such tricky ingredients such as crocodile and wallaby with real flair. If you can, try to snaffle a table on the pavement to really get the full Cairns experience. Somehow the fresh seafood, native game and bush foods such as tempura Gulf bugs on lemongrass with a green papaya salad and sweet chilli lemon myrtle dipping sauce, or the salt and native pepper leaf crocodile and prawns taste even more authentic that way. If you’re game, leave it to the Chef and opt for the Taste of Australia Ochre platter, a four-course set menu. If you prefer a la carte, then make sure you leave room for the desserts, which, if you’re lucky, might be the wattle seed pavlova or the Davidson Plum Mousse. Most popular Dishes: Tempura Bugs on Lemongrass Skewers & Pork Belly with Queensland Scallops
