My wife and I are on honeymoon, and we decided to check this place out because they serve native Aussie meats and had good reviews. From beginning to end, the service was great. The food and drink came out pretty quickly. They accommodated our request for a smaller order of emu wonton. We also ordered the Australian game platter to share. The kangaroo and wallaby were very tender and had strong good flavor. The most underwhelming one was the crocodile, as it had very little flavor. I would recommend people check this place out if they haven’t had Australian meats yet.
Food and atmosphere was sensational, excellent service and presentation of dishes. Fantastic flavours using local produce. Highly recommend
I’ve read so many reviews about this restaurant. It’s near the harbour and has a great view. Servings are a good portion. But the soup is not served with bread. I’d say the staff were very professional & accomodating. Highly recommend!
Awesome food! Dishes with a good size and fair priced! High quality of food. Very good service! I'll definitely come back! Keep going that way guy's!
We really enjoy our night there. Food was really good and the plum foam dessert was excellent! Our waitress Natalia was very friendly and advise us right!
Whenever we come to Cairns we always dine at Ochre. Their food is always interesting, clever, but never pretentious and beautifully presented. An absolute FNQ gem.
Awesome food in a great setting with fabulous service
Had a really enjoyable and relaxing Saturday night. Thanks guys!
Our waiter was just fantastic! Set up a table outside for us given it was my bday! He was very flexible in tasting some wines before I ordered a bottle.
Food quality was good but was expecting more "bush food".
Food serving was generous. Proteins were all well cooked. However flavors of food were average
We had the lunch platter. The food was lovely, perfect portion for lunch. And great value with the wine and chips included. Will definitely recommend and visit again.
Amazing Amazing Amazing
Solid set menu. Nicely made and a satisfying meal. Very good without being great.
Nice food with view
Excellent starters that really impressed us: double cooked pork belly, with scallops - reminiscent of the best Cantonese roasted pork; battered prawn and crocodile that had been crisply fried, the latter being our first introduction to crocodile meat, which turned out to be surprisingly like chicken. For mains, the Morganbury pork fillet was a little gamey and chunky for our taste, although the salad balanced that out as well as it could. The gulf bugs (lobster) were very good; the green papaya salad that went with it was very Asian and thus a little predictable, but it was well done.
Lovely menu. Best variety in Cairns
Service was really good. Loved the atmosphere.
Overall impressive - we really enjoyed our night out and service was excellent. Presentation of food could be worked on slightly to make the degustation courses speak more to 'fine dining'. Saying this, the presentation was fairly good - just needs to go slightly up a notch to make it more representative of the price paid for the degustation. Flavours were great. Just a note to revise menu description for the quail dish as the watermelon we received was not 'pressed' but did make a fresh complement against the salt and chilli. Everything else, spot on.
Exceptional quality of food using native products
6/1 Marlin Parade, 4870, Cairns City, Australia
Go native Ochre Restaurant has been wowing Cairns locals and tourists alike for more than 20 years with its fresh take on local produce that manages to showcase such tricky ingredients such as crocodile and wallaby with real flair. If you can, try to snaffle a table on the pavement to really get the full Cairns experience. Somehow the fresh seafood, native game and bush foods such as tempura Gulf bugs on lemongrass with a green papaya salad and sweet chilli lemon myrtle dipping sauce, or the salt and native pepper leaf crocodile and prawns taste even more authentic that way. If you’re game, leave it to the Chef and opt for the Taste of Australia Ochre platter, a four-course set menu. If you prefer a la carte, then make sure you leave room for the desserts, which, if you’re lucky, might be the wattle seed pavlova or the Davidson Plum Mousse.
