We were here on a Saturday night. The restaurant was very difficult to find. We got lost in the car park trying to get the best parking for this restaurant. The dishes we ordered were all quite nice. Sweet and sour pork on ice was good. So was the crispy skin chicken with ginger and shallot and the tofu hot pot. Salted egg king prawn was good too. Unlike most Chinese restaurant, rice was charge per bowl and not per person.

Servings could be bigger for the asking prices as compared to other Yum Cha places.

The food at yum cha was delicious. The service was order first and your food arrives, not the typical yum cha experience of selecting what you see on the carts as they come by your table. However, it’s very expensive, so I’d probably reconsider and choose an inner city yum cha.

The service at Open Kitchen is lamentable. Staff are inattentive, rude and poorly trained. I used to dismay this restaurant regularly but will definitely not dine there again after such a poor experience.

Really hard to find the place if you take steps from inside of the Macquarie shopping center, however the restaurant is quiet and a good venue for friends catch up. Food is of good value but the service is not that attentive due to busy lunch time.

I really like that you can order Yum Cha off the menus here rather than wait for trolleys to come round, but service at times can be hit and miss - We had to keep asking for our items which hadnt come out yet. Food is really good, but a little on the pricey side for the suburbs

About Open Kitchen Hetai

Elegant yum cha Unlike many yum cha eateries, this 250-seater Cantonese restaurant is elegant and modern. The refreshing decor features more square tables than round (can you believe it!), complemented with modern Asian woods and cool floor tiles. It’s stylish. And to go with the stylish dining room, there is a stylish cocktail bar where you can enjoy creative cocktails before you deep dive into a plate of dumplings. Around the restaurant you’ll find seafood tanks filled with king crabs, abalone and other sorts of live fishy friends. This North Ryde yum cha destination just upped the ante.
