Meet the Chef

Richard joined Otto in 2003, having worked with some of Europe’s great chefs in Berlin, Switzerland and his native Prague. He worked as James Kidman’s sous chef for five years, assuming the role of head chef in late 2009. His food style is unashamedly simple - modern Italian with roots firmly placed in the classics. For many it has come for many to signify the quintessential Sydney cuisine; fresh, seasonal, produce-driven, sourcing the finest ingredients and letting them speak for themselves.

This is my husband’s and my favourite Italian restaurant. We have came here many times. The food is always great. But service can be a bit slow because they are busy.

Always an awesome experience when I’ve been to Otto. Such a reliable establishment with a very impressive wine list to select from to enjoy with the 5 star menu .

Fabulous location at Woolloomooloo and thankfully has a movable shade veranda to shield the sun when required. Food is delicious as are the drinks albeit pretty pricey (as expected and can’t be avoided at Woolloomooloo wharf). Lovely experience for a special time.

Great food and lovely view. Although, the waiter serving us came across as a bit short/grumpy at times. Additionally, the receipt listed suggested gratuity amounts and the waiter made a point of referring to tipping. Not ideal. Nevertheless, we all had a great time and would eat there again.

We had the spanner crab, scollops and beef carpaccio as entrees and the signature lobster spaghetti for main. Food was tasty; very good service and relaxing atmosphere. It was quite expensive but worth the quality, service and environment.

Seafood pastas were really good. Waygu melted very nicely but the lamb rump was very chewy and disappointing. Service was great and nice birthday touch with a special dessert

We went for an intimate birthday dinner and as always it was lovely. The outdoor setting is wonderful sitting beside the water watching the boats dock and people go by. They have shade in sun and gas lamps in winter. The food is delicious and presented well as is the service. We highly recommend it for all occasions.

Service was gradual, graceful, and refined but never was offered the service names (without asking). All courses were deemed excellent by all. Wine pricing was elevated but overall an excellent experience - offering more personal engagement would have added points!

We had a delicious dinner at Otto. Definitely recommend the pancetta wrapped veal, zucchini flowers, and morten bay big linguini. Service is always great and staff are friendly. There was a bit of a wait between dishes so the waiter gave us some lovely chocolates on the way out. We’ll be back.

The food was delicious but staff should be more attentive. Instead of setting up the tables you shoud be focused on the guest (ask for the drinks, top up the wine and pay attention on details . Also some of their uniform was not clean. Overall good but wouldn’t rush back .

Food, especially the oysters were incredible! Can't wait to go back and have more of the seafood! One of our mains was a little smaller than the other, but without asking the waiter came back within a minute with another small dish to top up the main which was more of an entree size. They take a lot of care with their food quality, customers and service. Great atmosphere would definitely recommend! A little on the expensive side, they were offer bread but didn't realise they were charging for each piece of bread taken but other than that, lovely place.

The food was nice but not exceptional. One of our party ordered Wagu which was rather chewy. Another of our party had prawns and has been very unwell since leaving the restaurant. I’m glad that we tried the restaurant but we wouldn’t rush back.

I surprised my partner at OTTO with the Six course degustation menu for his birthday, as he is a seafood lover. Everything was beautifully balanced and artistically presented. The staff were friendly and accommodating and the black garlic butter, to die for.

Beautiful food, great location and service but unfortunately the serving sizes meant I left hungry which was disappointing. I wouldn’t recommend.

We wanted to love this restaurant but sadly we kept being disappointed. The initial service experience was great but the pre-dinner drinks took forever to come and then the starters finally arrived they were nice but a bit cold. We had to keep asking for things - more drinks, butter for the table - which was like flagging down a cab in a busy city. When the mains arrived they weren’t hot and only one small salad arrived to go with them. We gave up on trying to get the rest of our side dishes and ended up having just the meat/fish/pork on our dinner plates which wasn’t really that great. Still we persevered and ordered dessert which was very nice. When the bill arrived the side dishes we never received were on it and one of us had to go to the bar to get it changed as we could not get the attention of any of the staff from the table. So $700 later (with hardly any drinks) I would say - disappointing.

Hard to have a conversation because the restaurant is too noisy. Degustation took too long time to be served. We sat 12.45, the course still hasn't finished now at 4.17pm.
