Richard Ptanik

Richard joined Otto in 2003, having worked with some of Europe’s great chefs in Berlin, Switzerland and his native Prague. He worked as James Kidman’s sous chef for five years, assuming the role of head chef in late 2009. His food style is unashamedly simple - modern Italian with roots firmly placed in the classics. For many it has come for many to signify the quintessential Sydney cuisine; fresh, seasonal, produce-driven, sourcing the finest ingredients and letting them speak for themselves.

We attended for an anniversary but whilst the hostess commented on the occasion we were not particularly well placed or there was no recognition of the occasion again .Poor show

The Big Night Out - Pasta Tasting Menu

Celebrated for its house-made pasta, OTTO has created a tasting menu that pays homage to the world's most favourite food. Long, short, stuffed and rolled, the pasta tasting menu is a true la dolce vita experience that will transport you to the romantic waterside osterie of Italy. "Some would say five courses of pasta might seem like a carb overload," says Head Chef Richard Ptacnik, "But this menu is a thoughtful and diverse medley of pastas of all different shapes and sizes: some light and fresh, others hearty and robust". Starting with an indulgent spanner crab and mascarpone filled cappellacci with lobster bisque, followed by a mushroom filled agnolotti, the menu kicks off showcasing the skill of OTTO's pasta makers. Diners move on to a dish famous from the south of Italy, handmade cavatelli with braised baby octopus, cherry tomatoes and capers. Hand rolled pici with eight-hour pork and fennel ragu finishes off the savoury courses. The menu ends with a refreshing pineapple ravioli and take-home pistachio gnocchi petit four. Pasta La Vista, Baby! 5 courses- $120pp. Credit card details are requested for all reservations. Should you cancel your reservation within 24 hours of your reservation time, a $50per person late cancellation fee will apply.
