Meet the Chef

Picture of Alejandro Saravia.

Alejandro Saravia

Peruvian-born Chef Alejandro Saravia is widely credited with introducing Peruvian cuisine to Australia’s food culture. He brings his South American heritage to all aspects of his cooking. Was an amazing experience with flavours we wouldn’t normally try thanks to the waiters recommendations. We had the best waiters who were extremely friendly and easy to chat to. Overall an amazing experience with great food!

Our second time at Pastuso and we will definitely come back again and again! The only small criticism would be that my husband ordered a medium rare steak and one end of the steak was too rare for his liking.

Great meal for three excellent selection of drinks. We ordered a number of entree’s and the rib eye steak and the chicken for mains the chicken being a favourite. We finished off with dessert and aperitifs. Excellent value for what we had definitely recommend. All the staff were very welcoming we will return.

This was the 2nd time I eat at Pastuso. As usual the food is great, especially the ceviche and small plates (Beef & Fish skewer and Fried Chicken), the main duck was cooked well, but the confit duck might be a little salty. Overall really good meal

About Pastuso

Peruvian perfection at Pastuso Walk down the end of AC/DC Lane in Melbourne and you’ll instantly know that you’re heading somewhere special. Cruise past the famous Cherry Bar and out pops Pastuso, a restaurant with a real buzz that’s dedicated to serving mod Peruvian food. Order the beautifully textured flamed Crystal Bay prawns to start and you’ll be contemplating seconds after only one bite. A special mention has to go to the Pollo a la braza (roasted Peruvian chicken) that’s slow-cooked after a lengthy bath in a brine-like sauce (a fusion of cumin, soy sauce, red wine vinegar, coriander and Sichuan pepper). But it’s not just the food that’s kicking serious goals, the fit of fit-out is spot on too with a riot of colourful nca-inspired floor tiles, contemporary neon posters and melty, Dali-esque light fittings. If you’re in the city and looking for a feed, it would be silly not to check out Pastuso. Best dish: Pollo a la braza (roasted Peruvian chicken) that’s slow-cooked after a lengthy bath in a brine-like sauce (a fusion of cumin, soy sauce, red wine vinegar, coriander and Sichuan pepper).
