Meet the Chef

Philippe Mouchel was born in Normandy, and commenced his apprenticeship at the Hotel le Grand Cerf, at age 16. In 1991 Philippe and his family relocated to Australia where he opened the restaurant Paul Bocuse at Daimaru in Melbourne. In 2005 Philippe opened French restaurant, The Brasserie by Philippe Mouchel, at Crown and then in 2010 he opened P M 24, which closed in 2014. ‘Philippe’ opened in June 2016 and showcases traditional yet innovative French cooking.

    Love the tiny Xmas tree on the table. Sofa seats were comfortable. The snapper fish with clams was perfectly cooked with tasty sauce & asparagus. It’s the sauce that keeps us going back!

    Ready for the second hat! I thought it could not get any better but it did. On reflection, not surprising, though. Although very busy, everything was up to the high standard we have become used to.

    A really beautiful experience, celebrating our 35th wedding anniversary at a hidden gem of a restaurant. We enjoyed delicious food accompanied by equally tasty wines. Our waitress, Elisa, was helpful with menu suggestions and accompanying wines and we could not have enjoyed a more delicious meal with perfectly chosen complementary wines. Overall it was a really special evening.

    The staff could not have been more welcoming and helpful. We shared the roasted bone marrow, followed by the duck main course and desert. Each course was fabulous. We will look forward to an opportunity to dine at this restaurant again. Strongly recommended.

    I have been there so many times. Today I took my sister there for dinner because I think Philippe is the Best restaurant in Melbourne. Always come for their amazing steak and everything is wonderful~

    Excellent food and service. Great vibe. A great find in the middle of Melbourne. It never disappoints. Staff are very welcoming and efficient. Will certainly go again and recommend it to friends.

    Could be one of the best french restaurants in Melbourne. I had the $55 lunch (with duck leg as main) plus "escargots" (snail ????), all of them taste really good. Waiters and waitresses are polite as well. I will come back again.

    I booked dinner for my fiance's birthday. What an amazing place.. The staff was super helpful and friendly. The food was just awesome. Best french restaurant we have been till date. Can not wait to go back again. SIMPLY AMAZING!!!!!!

    Outstanding experience. The food looks amazing and taste even better. Very well balance flavours. Great service and very friendly. I got suggested a by the sommelier a fantastic bottle of Pinot noir from Tasmania. The best French restaurant in Melbourne by far! I’ll definitely go back
