Have always enjoyed Pilu and Melbourne Cup day was no exception. Staff, service & that amazing view are exceptional. Only tiny downside this time was my Creme Catalana dessert that was so sweet and dense I chose not to eat it. But as usual we had a lovely time and I have to say the rest of my meal was perfect despite the restaurant being completely full.
Booked for a birthday, and was a wonderful night. Expensive, but a great special treat! Beautiful food.
I had kingfish which was dry and the venison tartare was not finely cut which apparently made it unappetising. Service and wine fantastic
i may e out of touch with restaurant prices but thought it expensive
Excellent Food preparation and balance.
Felt a bit trapped by the dinning options, 3 courses for $90 per head was expensive.
We had a lovely lunch
Pilu has set the bar high on many levels (pun intended) with superb view, excellent service and great showcase of Sardinian food. Giovanni and his team serve up outstanding Sardinian food with great creativity and care. Attentive but never stuffy, they will make you feel special during a lesson about Sardegna. Your eyes may be on the view but their eyes are on you.
Lovely view and ambience. Good service with extensive wine list. Food choices more limited but fresh and well presented. Small portions for the price and definitely a special occasion restaurant.
good food, view and services
The dessert was not very good.
The food is as good as it always was. The only thing I would say is that the portion sizes appear to be getting smaller. I know this because we come back every year for birthday celebrations.
Very pleasant experience. Great food and awesome service.
Fabulous food, great wines and gorgeous views...
Exceptional service and lunch!
Great food and fabulous views. My lunchtime dining experience made more memorable by our wonderful and attentive waiter James. Will definitely go back again.. ????
Would like to see white table cloth and more attentive table service.
Food portions were quite very small, not much creativity. We ordered the snapper as the mains and the fillet seemed to be 25% smaller than what it should have been. The skin on snapper was extremely salty which left a bad taste. Also ordered suckling pig and it was no different that getting roast pork with cracking anywhere else, flavours were not unique at all. The views are only the only good thing about the place and that is if you are dining during the day and also seated by the window.
My partner loved his birthday experience at Pilu! We had a wonderful degustation menu with matching wines. Everything was lovely.
A fantastic dining experience

A sight for sore eyes…
Pilu offers the best of both worlds: vibrant, thrilling, sunshiny flavours from chef Giovanni Pilu’s Sardinian homeland, combined with some irresistible Sydney sand and surf. This award winning Italian restaurant set on Freshwater Beach is a sight for sore eyes. Walk up the stairs of the grand weatherboard beauty and you’ll feel like you’re visiting your friend's beach house for dinner. Sit down in the window seat with point blank views of the beautiful beach with some crumbed smoked eel balls with baby mussels and you’ll quickly remember that you’re in the very capable hands of Pilu himself, with his years of expertise and modern flair making its way into each and every dish. Pilu has character and charm but oozes warmth and comfort. The desserts are almost as breathtaking as the views so do yourself and favour and order the corbezzolo honey mousse, spiced sponge, roasted macadamias and a Sardinian beer sorbet. It will be true icing on the cake after a memorable meal and superb service.
Best dish: corbezzolo honey mousse.
