A good restaurant for relatively inexpensive meals with a reasonable choice of dishes. Food was well presented and tasty. Service was quick and good for pre-theatre

This is my fourth visit. This place is always a pleasure to dine, especially for pre-theatre. Good variety of food, great taste and presentation. Will be back!

Excluded items from the ‘50% off all food’ promotion because “they are the most expensive dishes”! Too expensive for the serves. Wine selection very limited & too expensive. Weird hotel lobby-like restaurant. Service not very attentive or customer focussed. Many, many, many better choices in Melbourne.

Came here during the Fork Festival. Was intrigued by not knowing this place existed and was right across from Flinders Street station. Good for groups and decent food. The sharing plates were too small, suggesting that this place doesn't encourage sharing dishes. We enjoyed the grill special, the wagyu steak. The ribs were very soft but the bao served with it was so hard that it was almost inedible. Service was mostly attentive though it was quiet night with not many tables. I would have preferred there be more regular water service or to leave the water jug at the table for us to serve ourselves.

I had TheFork special, so food was very reasonably priced. Food is enjoyable, imaginative and nicely cooked. Helpings a little small when paying full price. I appreciate the absence of loud music (it is possible to talk without screaming) and the fact that staff have been helpful and prompt when I have indicated that I need to leave for a show within a particular time frame. It is good to be able to arrive before 6 pm when seeing a show in the Arts precinct.

Great atmosphere, good service. - 750g ribs were soft and tender, and it came with mint leaves, pickles, pears and baos that you can DIY your meal. However, there were small crushed bones (from the rib I assume) in the meat which is annoying when you kept biting on something hard. - lamb pasta was flavourful, the tomato base is rich, along with pine nuts and feta cheese. We had high expectation from this restaurant and they surely didn’t disappoint us, we would be back!

Went as a couple, had an entertainment voucher. Steak was great, as were the sides we had. Decor was alright, not overly romantic but would be suitable for a group/party.

About the restaurant

All aboard!

Inspired by its famous neighbour at Flinders Street Station, Platform 270 is a very “Melbourne” restaurant which embodies the culture of Melbourne’s side-streets and tangled network of laneways.

The menu embraces local produce and exciting innovative flavours, which will take you on a culinary journey and you can expect simple food with a whole lot of soul.

We love the flame-grilled 500gm rib eye and thin fries with slow roast garlic mayo . The space is industrial-chic, making it the perfect spot for an after work sesh or a date night.

Best dish: Sticky Plum and Tamarind Glazed Pork Belly
