Despite the early evening booking staff were engaged and well informed. Notice was taken of our following appointment and service prompt in consideration. Food options were excellent, 3 starters and the first chips with vinegar I’ve found in Queensland. Look forward to returning to try further menu items. The Old Fashioned was the best found worldwide.

Great atmosphere and service, lots of post-work drinkers at the bar. Surprisingly not full on a Friday night. Dishes came out very fast, which I liked. We ordered the kingfish with ants (which we expected to be served on the pebbles and on its own tail), we thought it was bland and could improve. The ants did not add flavour either, as they were just crunchy bits that poked your palate. The tataki, koji beef and KFD were all superb, the meat was succulent. However they were a bit overpriced in my opinion. I would return for the KFD and atmosphere.

Wonderful Contradictions Public is a place of wonderful contradiction. There’s a quaint antique typewriter and collection of antique sewing machines mixed in with a sleek, contemporary interior of concrete floors and soaring glass walls. There’s KFD (Kentucky Fried Duck) as well as delicate dishes such as wagyu tataki that’s as pretty as it is complex. But these contradictions are part of Public’s charm. And lovers of this sexy, New York loft-style venue will know the drinking is just as good as the food. One thing’s for sure, Public’s dinner and drinks menu remains one of the most engaging in Brisbane. Check it out! Best dish: Wagyu Tataki with wombok and pickled cucumber
