We had a lovely evening out. The view is spectacular and the food is good. We will be back in the not too distant future and before the end of summer for sure.

Our go-to place for special occasions. Always a great experience. Four stars for food should be 4.5 ..my only whinge is portion size with the mains.

A regular place for us and never disappoints. A great selection of wine and food. Fantastic views over Balmoral beach. Highly recommended and looking forward to our next visit.

We were seated in the annex to the restaurant which felt cafe like and not at all like an upmarket restaurant. Might as well have ordered take outs from the fish shop down the road and sat on the beach. It would have been an all round better experience including the fish which was oily at best. Spoilt our anniversary celebration.

Public Dining never dissapoints. The setting down infront of Balmoral Beach is unbeatable and over the years this placed ahas developed a reputation of producing a consistency of high standard dining. Thankyou for a lovely evening.

The food and the wine were nice. The view is great. One of the steaks had to be done twice as it was over cooked. On the expensive side. Have been here 3 times already.

Excellent food in a beautiful setting. Try to get a table by the window if you can as the windows open and you get a lovely sea breeze and this only enhances what is an excellent restaurant experience.

The food was delicious, especially the oysters and the lamb shoulder. Service however wasn't quite to standard.

Everything about this restaurant is good except for the long wait between dishes. Must have been 75 minutes between entree & main course. Unacceptable!

Food is good but for me this spot is all about service and location. Portion sizes are a little bit small, but we had a beautiful meal and we’re lucky enough to score a perfect table by the window.

A special evening for us, celebrating our guest's "O" birthday. The atmosphere was relaxed and ambience very pleasant. The food overall was excellent, however more substantial vegetarian options would have been desirable. I made the mistake of ordering the fish and chips, which was nothing to write home about, just very ordinary and I may as well have just bought it from across the road. During the course of the evening, one of the wait staff knocked a full glass of water over my husband. Yes, accidents do happen but this is quite an establishment & prides itself on being so, and I personally felt that some sort of compensation should have been offered for this incident.

We were a little underwhelmed overall with the food. We did enjoy the king prawns and roast pumpkin dish but the rest of the meal fell short. The pork belly was dry with minimal crackling, and nothing really stood out. Great beachside setting but I'd expect better food for the prices we paid.

This restaurant was a great find. The staff were great. Wonderful service and they were genuinely nice. Food was tasty, very fresh, could not fault our order. Mocktails was a little on the pricey side - Berrylicious (contained only strawberry puree and possibly soda water) $12. Location also great, stepping out right to the beach.

About the restaurant

A Balmoral Beauty...

If you’ve made it to Balmoral Baths, then you’ve pretty much got the location sorted. Tick one for Public Dining Room. As you sit in this bright, contemporary room with huge dome lights punctuating the open space, floor-to-ceiling windows and warm timbers throughout, spirits and instantly raised. When heart-warming, tasty food is served you know you’ve hit a winner. Tick Two for Public Dining Room. The focus here is on casual fine food – supporting Australian ingredients, suppliers and sustainable seafood wherever possible. Breakfasts of smashed avocado on Sonoma toast with Yarra Valley fetta and seasonal Portobello mushrooms covered with grana padano are a popular choice. Lunch and dinner options run from oyster selections, to gin-cured trout or Thirlmere duck (confit and smoked). It’s good for the soul type food served in a picture perfect setting - the kind of dining experience that makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Who doesn't want a bit of that?

Best dish: gin-cured trout
