Excellent
What a beautiful spot for a nice family birthday lunch. Beautiful views, with lovely food and lovely service. It's great that a fine dining restaurant has a kids menu.
Gorgeous location, perfect service. Preferred the yellowfin tartare over the duck tortellini but both were tasty and beautifully presented.
The location could not be more pretty. Attentive, friendly and knowledgeable service plus amazing food.
The portions were at the smaller end of expectation and the duck sauce could have been hotter. nothing further to add.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Food was delicious and beautifully presented. We had the squid, souffle, duck tortellini, and pumpkin. Service was super friendly and attentive. Views were lovely. Highly recommend!
Love the beautiful, expansive view n setting. Food was understatedly delicious but a bit disappointed with the grill fish of the day which was a bit dry. Overall service by staff n manager was great .
nice location, nice view and weather was good too. staff were welcoming & attentive. food were flavoursome but slightly on the salty side (for me).
Views was delightful! Nice range of wines and cocktails! Food was nice! Staff were friendly and accommodating! Decor was tastefully done! Next time might go for the Dégustation Menu for more value for buck!
Prompt service, food came our quickly, great food with right sized portions for the The Fork set menu. Lovely setting.
My husband and I agreed that our meals were some of the best we have ever had. The food was fresh and tasteful and it left us wanting to come back and try the rest of the menu. The ambience was perfect for a romantic night out or special occasion. We highly recommend the Public Dining Room.
Tasty linguine
Simply stunning in every way. Tonight we had Harry as a waiter - engaging, attentive, professional and thoughtul - the best of the best. My husband and I were seated overlooking the beach which was lovely. I had the eye fillet which was perfectly cooked and delicious . My husband had the seafood linguine which he also thoroughly enjoyed. Our best visit to Public Dining Room. Thanks to Harry for making it a 10/10.
The barramundi was perfectly cooked. I have never had one so succulent. I would like to try the a la carte menu next time. Unbeatable location with beach views.
Excellent selections on the set menu. It was nice to see simple dishes done very well.
Nice place with a beautiful view. The service was great. Food was good but nothing really unusual. Tastes was there too but it was “normal”, nothing exceptional. It was a bit surprising not see home made fries in such nice place.
The superb location is more than matched by the whole fine-dining experience here..this is superbly Sydney! But you cannot eat style..right? Here dedicated & thoughtful table service is but the handmaid of the artfully plated & carefully achieved kitchen work of the highest order. Top quality ingredients (especially reverenced are the vegetables here!) are perfectly cooked, having in some cases been imaginatively employed in refreshingly unusual ways..eg imagine compressed watermelon paring the gloriously cured trout~ embellished with slivers of zucchini flowers...Oh joy! My seawater-farmed barramundi filet main was stunningly achieved with nothing but the most classic of techniques>crispy skin & tender, moist flesh. Perfect. The side of crunchy beans+broccolini also outstandingly mannered! But the gorgeous creme brulee arguably stole the show >> deftly but oh-so-gently toffeed "hat" revealed a sublime custard beneath that was more rich than sweet & also divinely smooth. Embellished with the genius of a passionfruit 'emulsion' on the side ..I swooned. Highly recommended.
Great food and friendly service. Thanks
Great restaurant, Loved the food. I'll be sure to be back, and check out daylight hours, I suspect the water views are fantastic but I went after dark
Beautiful atmosphere and view over the water, with great waitstaff. Ordered soufflé and risotto which were the only vegetarian choices other than salad and vegetable accompaniments to the seafood and meat dishes. This was a bit disappointing as we were hoping to see more variety. Appreciated the byo Wednesday and attentive service.
Second time coming here today; the only reason we came back is because the manager left us an encouraging comment after I posted a review for our first visit that was a mixed bag of positives and negatives. Today, service was a lot more attentive and pleasant so thank you. Food was enjoyable for the most part - only drawbacks were the fishy aftertaste from our seafood linguine and overly sweet desserts which had nice flavours and were beautifully presented, but lacked in salt/savoury to balance out the sugar. I do recommend taking off that bitter coffee crumble though as it overpowered the mousse. Overall, this time was much better than the last and I'm sure it can only get better from here. :)

A Balmoral Beauty...
If you’ve made it to Balmoral Baths, then you’ve pretty much got the location sorted. Tick one for Public Dining Room. As you sit in this bright, contemporary room with huge dome lights punctuating the open space, floor-to-ceiling windows and warm timbers throughout, spirits and instantly raised. When heart-warming, tasty food is served you know you’ve hit a winner. Tick Two for Public Dining Room. The focus here is on casual fine food – supporting Australian ingredients, suppliers and sustainable seafood wherever possible. Breakfasts of smashed avocado on Sonoma toast with Yarra Valley fetta and seasonal Portobello mushrooms covered with grana padano are a popular choice. Lunch and dinner options run from oyster selections, to gin-cured trout or Thirlmere duck (confit and smoked). It’s good for the soul type food served in a picture perfect setting - the kind of dining experience that makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Who doesn't want a bit of that?
Best dish: gin-cured trout
