Long time favourite, but a disappointing night. Small menu traditionally but much smaller when items not available after Easter weekend. Favourite wines also unavailable, disappointed with red wines by the glass selection. If you take out Pinot, Greek wine and Mornington Peninsula red as quirky choices, basically left with several Syrah style wines from 2017 and 2018. Tried a Syrah blend, one of the more ordinary house wines in Melb over the past three years, and at $16, did not impress. Main meal underwhelmed but handled very professionally by staff. Wife very happy, loved ceviche particularly the different way this dish was prepared. Also loved salt beef en croute, though had expected this in pastry rather then as a very hard crisp bread. Parmesan fries were a brilliant combination.

Usually reliable food wasn't quite there this time and got the order wrong, shame because i have rated this place very highly in the past.

Punch Lane is provides whatever you need; romantic dinner, drink and cheese platter before a show, degustation menu but always personable service.
Thank you very much that is very kind :) Happy Easter from all of us at Punch

I have been eating at Punch Lane for many years. I was disappointed this time to see how few people were there.
Thank you for your continued support . Happy Easter :)

About Punch Lane

Pack a punch... So does Punch Lane pack a punch after almost two decades of service? Certainly does. Positioned at the top end of Bourke Street, this Melbourne treasure has been a Melbourne institution for years, welcoming good food and wine lovers into it’s cosy, intimate European setting night after night. The dining room is surrounded with timber, leather accents and red chairs - it’s the kind of place you feel the need to light up a cigar and sip on a brandy. During the day the restaurant is a popular setting for lunch meetings, with an a la carte menu or an express lunch offering two courses with a glass of wine and coffee to finish (for $39 - not bad!). The food is contemporary Mediterranean with occasional Asian and Middle Eastern inflections and as a restaurant that has been at the forefront of Melbourne’s cheese platter culture, Punch Lane is the perfect place for theatre-goers to have a feed pre show. With warm and welcoming service, you’ll feel snug as a bug in your excellent hospitality doona, this old world city bistro knows how ti impress. Best dish: cheese platter
