Rebel with a cause Nestled inside the Norwest Novotel you’ll find the Rebellion Bar & Grill, named for the Rum Rebellion of 1804, catering for hotel guests and visitors alike. Their bar menu has some great go-to dishes, from the Angus beef burger and traditional Caesar salad to pumpkin gnocchi and lamb croquettes. It’s bistro fare with flair. They also do a wonderful High Tea from 2-5 on Saturdays and Sunday (best book ahead as it gets busy). Delicate ribbon sandwiches, savoury bites, scones with double cream and jam, and a cheeky glass of champagne sounds like just the ticket to get you through the weekend. If the weather is fine, there’s an outdoor dining area or just hunker down in the generous dining room and choose from coq au vin, spiced rack of lamb or perhaps the fresh linguine with roasted pumpkin, fried sage, toasted pine nuts and chevre. Fancy. Or you could just go for a simple steak from the grill. But don’t overdo it, because you’ll want to leave room for a tasty morsel from the ‘something to finish’ part of the menu; the hardest part will be choosing between the honey lemon cheesecake, the freshly-baked pear and walnut strudel, and the mousse made with dark and white Belgian chocolate. They also do a lovely organic buffet breakfast seven days a week. Best dish: Warm chorizo, vegetable and cannellini bean soup
