Absolutely fabulous food at Toshiya and very friendly service. All the positive reviews are well deserved. We had the tasting menu and could not fault a single dish. The tacos were incredible and generous in filling. Will be back sooner rather than later. Suberashi!

This restaurant is great. The food is good, there is both traditional and fusion dishes. It's tasty and the service is great. The owner is a really great guy.

Great food and service. Tacos “a must” starter. Atmosphere untidy. Tables had not been cleared the entire time we were dining from former diners. BYO a bonus at very little cost. We may return.

Some of the dishes were excellent - sashimi tacos, beef tatami and kingfish carpaccio - and some were not that appealing (volcano sushi looked like something the cat threw up). Very noisy but the service was excellent and we enjoyed the evening. Will go back again but choose more selectively next time!

We had a family dinner here to celebrate my son's 18th birthday. The Special Banquet was wonderful. Nice presentation and very tasty. The place can get a little busy and loud, which adds to the atmosphere.

About the restaurant

Toshi-YUM! Toshiya is located in Cremorne Junction and is undoubtedly one of the best Japanese restaurants in the area - possibly Sydney! Even though it’s always packed with people, don’t let that deter you; it’s certainly worth waiting for a table. Toshiya’s menu is extensive, covering all types of Japanese specialities: nigiris and rolls, special sushis, fish, noodles, rice and dishes such as chicken katsu, teriyaki waygu beef, hot pots and karaage. Owner chef Toshiya Kai heads up his professional team of Japanese chefs, and you’ll find him regularly behind the sushi counter, putting on an impressive show for his diners. The food is beautifully presented, and from just one bite you can tell Toshiya uses only the freshest and finest produce. The restaurant has been decorated in chic yet modern Japanese style, with lots of dark wood and red lanterns. Open for lunch on Friday and Saturday, and dinner Tuesday to Sunday, Toshiya is a must if you’re after good quality Japanese. Come with an empty stomach – we guarantee you’ll want everything on the menu! Best dish: Seared salmon roll.
