Attentive but unobtrusive service. Small menu with all day breakfast of quality ingredients; plates which are well designed and cooked. One of the better iced coffees around, not the highly iced diluted offerings of some other places.

When we lived in Melbourne we frequently visited RHCL. Now that we’ve moved overseas, we try to make it a point to visit it at least once when we’re back. This visit was no different but I was a bit taken aback by the attitude of one of the waiters. We were a party of 6 adults, 1 toddler and 2 infants. The toddler and his dad were walking around the restaurant (it was Thursday morning around 11am and it was not crowded). The dad happen to come across a bit of glass on the floor, picked it up and handed it to the waiter. The waiter responded by saying that “that’s why children shouldn’t be on the floor, this is a restaurant”. We found it to be incredibly rude and uncalled for as none of our children were on the floor - both infants were always being held, and the toddler is almost 2 years old and walking. We were simply trying to be helpful as it’s not just the children but anyone could have stepped on the glass and either slipped or if they had been wearing thin slippers, been cut. This waiter made us feel like we were an imposition when the restaurant was not full and for some reason kept sitting groups of people near us even though there were plenty of seats around the rest of the venue.

Very pleasant informal atmosphere and quiet as it was not very full. The food was good and the waitresses were friendly and reasonably efficient. We visited the cheese room afterwards and received excellent attention from the young cheesemonger, including some tastings. He sports an impressive muoustache!
