Meet the Chef

As a young girl Rosa Mitchell and her family migrated from Sicily. Once an adult, Rosa began working at ‘Gertrude Street Enoteca’, soon after; running the kitchen at Journal Canteen and given free rein; where her home-style Sicilian cooking became recognised. Following this she opened Rosa's Kitchen and now with Rosa's Canteen sharing her time between the restaurant and her farm in Yandoit. Rosa’s food is very special: uncomplicated, traditional, lovingly prepared and authentic.

Good honest food, simple choices well recommended and accompanied by matching, not too fussy drinks list. Our special occasion dinner was made better by having it at Rosa’s Canteen.

Hidden delight, has a very authentic Sucilian feel due to Rosa herself as owner chef smiling as you enter (from the kitchen), excellent pasta, friendly staff, small but successful business in heart of courts precinct. Lovely view of the back of the Supreme Courts..

About the restaurant

The Queen of Sicily reigns again

It is our opinion that you can never have too much of a good thing. That’s why we’re super happy that Rosa Mitchell, co-owner of Sicilian restaurant Rosa’s Kitchen, has opened up another restaurant in Melbourne’s CBD. Rosa has designed a menu that features not only her signature Sicilian favourites, but dishes from all around the boot-shaped nation. Expect much loved classics like veal saltimbocca, spaghetti carbonara and sumptuous arancini balls. You can also choose a yummy banquet option if you’re coming with a large group - this could include a baby suckling pig or a whole leg of goat! You can’t go wrong at this hearty, homely Italian joint.

Best Dish: Fettucine zucchini prawns
