Great food in fabulous setting

From the time we walked in, we were made to feel welcome. Our waiter (from Geelong) was friendly, informative and offered informed suggestions. Great pre-dinner drinks whet our palates. When we were trying to decide between two wines, he tossed up a 3rd option- and suggested that we taste it, and if it didn’t suit us, he’d put it on the ‘by-the-glass list (it was an excellent choice). The entrees (cauliflower fritters and calamari) were excellent. The mains - wild barramundi, slow cooked pork neck and roast lamb and peas - were all tasty and unpretentiousness presented. Also, and an important aside, the background music (jazz) set a mood along with the buzzy atmosphere - but it was unobtrusive. We didn’t have to talk over it - a lesson many restaurants could learn from. Highly recommended for a special dinner - or lunch - at a reasonable price.

About Rosa's Canteen

The Queen of Sicily reigns again It is our opinion that you can never have too much of a good thing. That’s why we’re super happy that Rosa Mitchell, co-owner of Sicilian restaurant Rosa’s Kitchen, has opened up another restaurant in Melbourne’s CBD. Rosa has designed a menu that features not only her signature Sicilian favourites, but dishes from all around the boot-shaped nation. Expect much loved classics like veal saltimbocca, spaghetti carbonara and sumptuous arancini balls. You can also choose a yummy banquet option if you’re coming with a large group - this could include a baby suckling pig or a whole leg of goat! You can’t go wrong at this hearty, homely Italian joint. Best Dish: Fettucine zucchini prawns
