Meet the Chef

Born in Zambia, Owen emigrated to Australia in the early 70s. His mother a cookery teacher and father in the military saw Owen working in restaurants at 14 whilst at school, until beginning his apprenticeship and part of the team who opened New Parliament House in 1988. Cooking was second to his love of ice hockey, always saying he’ll cook until he works out what he wants to do. Rubicon has now been operating for 20 years, with Owen’s three kids now working alongside him in the restaurant.

    Staff were lovely and the food was great, sauce on the duck fat potatoes was very strong so be careful not to take a huge amount like I did. Had 6 course degustation, meals were spaced out well and wines paired very nicely

    The complimentary appertiser was wonderful and the overall experience was good. There were a couple of blemishes with cutlery. I had to ask for a steak knife and the desserts were served without forks as well as spoons. Generally the food was well presented and blended well but the raspberry with the chocolate desert did not seem to fit. I would have liked greater choice in the per glass options such as a Cabertnet Sauvignon and a Riesling. The Tasmanian bubbles - the Pirie was brilliant.
