Squid ink sciallatielli with crab, zucchini, bottarga and crustacean bisque
Most disappointingly sad meal Like most people we found this restaurant through the many rave reviews and were excited to visit and as foodies enjoy every second. Firstly the food; zucchini flowers were tasteless apart from the strong olive oil, not sure what the orange sauce flavour should have been but it was missing. Then the Calamari that was average and entirely forgettable. The star; the Oysters that were delicious but served with an astringent and inedible vinegrette and shallot dressing. The Flounder that was very tasty and beautifully presented but which non of the servers offered to plate for us. Bizarre as even the calamari was offered for plating. Not something I was expecting but showed terrible service etiquette. The Steak perfectly cooked where the server offered to plate for us having explained that it was already sliced to then find the the steak was only sliced once, whereupon she hurriedly ran to get a knife and started hacking. We ordered a stellar Barolo that was delicious and decanted but the server was determined to minimise his need to serve us so we had one bottle served to us in three hefty lots, which did not do it justice. On top of this every time we were served water a huge splash landed on my sleeve and table place with no comment. Finally, the service and overall team ambience; obviously there are huge issues between kitchen and service and this is maybe why the manager was busy lurking around every table with a menacing eye on his staff. There was a tangible atmosphere where even we were reluctant to be honest about our experience. What’s sad is that this could have been so great but the horrible service the bland food and the general chaos between staff means we won’t go back and that’s the best way we can vote, is with our feet. So many better places to go in Melbourne, unless you’re very local, don’t bother.
Melbourne has so many good Italian restaurants and this rates highly amongst them. Great food and service in a cosy setting. Recommended as great value for a couple or larger groups.
The staff, all Italian, are passionate and knowlegable about the menu. Their suggestions for wine matching were impeccable. The presentation of the dishes was beautiful, the flavours perfect. I would return to this restaurant tomorrow.
Fantastic food great service excellent service very friendly excellent restaurant
Lovely food and service. I will gladly return
Excellent food an service. The wine list is impressive.
The service was great without being in your face - staff would quickly check that everything was okay and then move on. Food options were quite varied but excellent taste and presentation wise. I would be amazed if anyone could find something to complain about.
This little restaurant was great. Lovely staff, great knowledge of the menu and wines. Impeccable service and the food was amazing. We had the chef’s selection and felt very indulged. It was all very tasty and amazing food. Delicate and expertly prepared. We will be back every time we visit Melbourne!
This is simply the best Italian restaurant in Melbourne.
The ambience, the quality of the food and the service was exceptional, as always . . . an extremely fine restaurant !!!
Food is amazing! Barolos just as good.
Fine food. Enjoy going there.
Food and service were excellent
Good, tasty dishes of generous proportions, attentive service.
Arguably the best Italian restaurant in Melbourne. Have been there several times a year for over 5 years and the very high quality of food and service has been consistently maintained. Easily our favourite restaurant in Melbourne.
Good food and friendly services!
First class dining experience,
It's the best restaurant in Melbourne and has been for years. Anthony and the team go above and beyond and it just gets better and better for the last 5 years we've gone.
Excellent food, service & ambience.

Discover Italy in Carlton
Scopri. Meaning 'to discover', or 'to find out' in Italian and it comes directly from the experiences that owners Anthony Scutella and Alison Foley gained while travelling through Italy together. On their journey the pair were struck by the diversity of Italian food and wine and thought there was an opportunity to recreate these flavours in Melbourne.
Deep Italian flavours permeate the seasonally varying menu at Scopri, following a traditional format of antipasto, primi, secondi and dolci, and always using local products and artisan producers. This wonderful restaurant is warm, friendly and welcoming - the ideal destination for a first date, celebration or family shin dig. Oh and wine dinners are their specialty - take note.
