This place is a little gem! We had a wonderful meal and a couple of delicious drinks. The staff were lovely. Beautiful setting too; only little nuisance was out table was so unstable it nearly tipped over!

Great service and delicious food. This is our second time and both times we have found the service excellent. We had the same friendly waiter both times.

We decided to pick a local place for dinner that week and went for Spoonbill. Checking the menu. it wasn’t extensive but the choices look well-planned. Being meat eaters partner went for the one of the steaks and i had the beef short ribs with steamed broccoli on the side - Wow! It was one of the best ribs I’ve had in a long time... Generous portions perfectly cooked with the meat falling off by just a gentle swipe of my fork. Subtly sticky with a nice balance of salty & sweet flavours it went perfectly well with the steamed veg and mash (special request that the chef obliged to). For dessert we had the cheesecake w/ ice cream which did not disappoint as well. Overall an awesome dining experience. Will definitely be back pretty soon. Btw William is a top host with the most!

The menu was promising, but overall dissappointed. The Paella was very oily and small. The dory fillet was cold and the roasted cauliflower was ok.

Cost was after 40% discount on the food bill. Staff were great , the menu was limited and some with me thought the food quality was average , although my meal was great.

Very noisy place as we were there on Friday, AFL parade. The bar & restaurant (dining area) should be separated due to the noise from the bar. Definitely not suitable for young kids. Food is ok but service is awesome.

Good Food. Small Plates however are a bit too small. Main complaint is the price. Wouldn't say it's worth the price being charged.

About the restaurant

Can I get the spoon please? Bill, I mean. Spoonbill restaurant and bar is a unique Aussie gem that fits right in to the fancy Chapel Street milieu. Spoonbill is about cool concepts and intriguing innovations along with scrumptious Aussie tucker. And it’s very arty. Inspired by home-grown artist John Olsen and designed by the famous Grant Amon Architects, you’ll never have guessed that the stunning interior comprises of used materials. The bar glows white and the dining area is moodily lit by hanging lamps and incredible wicker constructions. Amazing right? And we haven’t even told you about the menu yet! At Spoonbill, you won’t have a single uninformed bite. That’s right, the seasonal menu specifies where your food came from and why it’s great. They do modern Australian favourites like braised pork belly and seared duck breast, the usual Italian tenants like spaghetti and risotto, flavourful numbers to share like ribs, oysters and paella, as well as really nice burgers, sandwiches and fries. You’ve really gotta eat this place – oops! - see this place. Best dish: Olsen’s famous paella – a recipe devised by the artist himself
