Great vegan options including a dessert. Loved trying the sake with the flight option. Staff were friendly and the chef gave us complimentary edamame whilst waiting for our slightly delayed gyoza.
Even though we live near Steam, we don’t drive on that section of the Nepean Highway. It was a friend in the city that told us about it. We had never eaten out in Rye, but that all changed with Steam Jen, Byron and the staff have created one of the best asian restaurants in Victoria. By Asian I mean all Asian, from Thai to Japanese. There are several Tasting menus to choose from as well, but be warned, don’t come still full from lunch if you order one. The owner also runs The Floating Market In Dromana which sells everything you need to create your own meals, which means she is well stocked on all ingredients at Steam. On the Summer menu the cod and Thai yellow curries are particularly wonderful. Do I record Steam, I certainly do. Also a great Sake and wine list.
I made reservation online as I rang the restaurant but no one answer. However, when we arrived and required the table not close to the door as my fiance gets cold. The waitress then gave us an attitude. The food quality used to be better than this that's why we loves going there. so maybe they should work on that.
Best food on Peninsula, the chefs do an amazing job which beautiful ingredients, service was very attentive, but not over gushie, seating is a little awkward prefer chairs rather than bench seating, because it so popular it’s a little noisy. I give 10/10.
We had the 10 piece $45 banquet. My partner is a reducatarian and chooses not to each much meat. The staff where more than happy to accomodate her and her menu was altered to suit. The staff work amazingly together and seem to know exactly what there jobs are and not many words are spoken as they work away. The food is amazing and has the perfect amount of spice and flavouring. For other reviewers mentioning the rock for your chopsticks, I think it’s a great idea to keep the ends of the sticks off the table while you wait for each meal, maybe they didn’t understand the purpose.the sushimi was my favourite of the dishes served. I did however leave still hungry but happy with my experience. It is great to have something different and not the same old, same old Asian cuisine.
Delicious food, everything we tried was at a minimum yum, and at best amazing. An awesome fusion asian place that i would recommend and re-visist for sure. Very Melbournesque
Service was pretty poor out order was wrong we had to ask twice for a glass to drink our saki and our bill was wrong, but the food was ok and it’s a nice place to sit and eat.
Beautiful food and wonderful service catering for dietary needs
The most amazing staff, service was sensational from the moment we walked in!!! And the food!!!....what can I say other than YOU SIMPLY MUST TASTE TO APPRECIATE!!
Always enjoy this local Asian fusion food experience
Sensational food and service, an amazing restaurant in a small coastal town. Just sorry we don’t live nearby!
Matched all the word of mouth high recommendations. I’ll definitely make it a regular dining experience
Always delicious and great service
Wonderful menu...One of the best local eats. A little pricey but you get what you pay for. Yum.
This is the only restaurant I will go to as I Have never been disappointed! Great food, great wine and friendly service
We found that the dishes were well presented but unfortunately the attention to detail was not as high with the actual cooking & flavors, with flavors lacking balance- a sweet savory dish was too sweet, a spicy dish was too hot and lacked freshness that might’ve been provided from lime etc and some items were a bit over cooked.
Amazing, memorable experience.
We eat there quite often. I don’t always review. It is a great restaurant. The food is always excellent as is the service. We know it has been short listed for best Asian Restaurant in greater Melbourne at least twice.
Great food, service was outstanding. Only negative would be the limited options for my fussy 11 year old. I would not recommend for young families. My 13 year old enjoyed the food.
3rd time there and will come back. Only complaint was pork crackling was burnt and not rendered fully. Tables too close together and waitresses kept knocking me with their butts when I was trying to eat.
