Great welcome to this gem . Our party of eight was looked after superbly by a professional, efficient and very pleasant waitress. The food was delicious, beautifully cooked and presented. Wine service was great with an interesting wine list. Our first visit won’t be our last.
This place is a gem. Food was spectacular and we all ordered the specials. Wines by the glass were excellent and tastings offered which is always great when ordering unfamiliar Italian varieties. The chocolate pyramid desert was decadent and definitely a share dish. This would have been a 10 all round except when it came to leaving, we had to ask for the bill four times before we were given it. The manager apologised for the delay but it tarnished an otherwise perfect evening. Having said that, the food was so good that I will give this another try.
Perfect. Food, wine and service were all spot on. The staff made a fabulous effort to interact. Lots of fun. Really enjoyed our visit. Thank you.
Our new favourite best Italian Restaurant in Melbourne.
Always great food, service and atmosphere
Long standing King Street italiano gem!
Our team likes to go to Sud every time we visit Melbourne, and it certainly didn’t disappoint! The food, service and everything is outstanding. Can’t wait to come back!
We had an outstanding experience at Sud. Genuine, friendly service and excellent food (the scallops are a must have!) in a cosy neighbourhood atmosphere is very hard to find in the CDB and Sud has got it. We will be dining again!
Sud showcases great southern Italian food using the finest ingredients available. I don’t know why I waited so long to go back!!
Very well hospitality and food, must go when you live in Melbourne
Great evening. Great wine and food
The new menu is good and the wait staff well informed on the wines and attentive. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
Been to Sud many times and the food and service are the best as always! My guest kept saying he was on a diet yet he finished each course before I did! And he couldn't resist the temptation of the wonderful tiramisu! My sadine and lamb were simply gorgeous.
The quintessential Melbourne gastronomic experience. Great space, great produce, great wine and great service. This place is Melbourne personified.
Excellent atmosphere, great food, great service
Food was great as was the service. Highly recommend.
The staff were fantastic! The food took a long time to arrive but was worth the wait.
Brilliant service and great food.
Nice Italian flavours and a good wine list.
What a great night! Fantastic service, friendly atmosphere, great food and tremendous wine list. We were never hurried and there was plenty of help to evaluate the various specials and long wine list. A very relaxed serting.

A Balance of Class and Comfort
SUD is an intimate 45 seater Italian restaurant in the heart of Melbourne (between Lonsdale and Little Bourke), which boasts fresh local produce with an array of local and international dishes. While the limited seating implies formality, there is nothing pretentious going on here. The decor is restrained, with a large wine rack covering the back wall and posing as the main feature of decoration. This small, somewhat upmarket restaurant has a constantly evolving menu and an extensively dynamic wine list (hence the wine rack) to compliment every meal, sourced from various regions of Italy as well as local producers. Our favourite dish? It would have to be the generous signature plate from Head Chef, Mark Taylor - a main of duck, steamed and roasted, with sweet-potato mash and apple-balsamic segments to mop up the jus. This restaurant embodies the ‘Italian’ understanding of food, and diners are urged to ‘make a mess’ and enjoy. As they say ‘you don’t need a silver fork to eat good food!' From a business lunch to a romantic meal for two, SUD produces a reliable balance of class and southern Italian comfort.
Best Dish: duck, steamed and roasted, with sweet-potato mash and apple-balsamic segments.
