Excellent service, thanks Mark!
Always on point with service, assistance, food presentation and deliciousness. If you haven't tried black toro yet, you've been missing out!
Overall, had a pleasant experience. Food was nice enough. Atmosphere wise- was a bit crowded and a little noisy.
I haven’t dined at Black Toro for maybe 2 years, but it has been one of my favourite restaurants in the outer eastern suburbs. I was eagerly looking forward to a delicious dinner there with my husband. I can’t put my finger on it but it felt like it had changed and was not as good as it used to be. The food was good but not as delicious as I remembered. The music being played was bizarre - hiphop/rap and we were eating our meal to the song ‘Roses’ by OutKast ... “I know you’d like to think that your sh*t don’t stink ... roses really smell like poo poo”. Nice dinner music. Half way through our meal, someone turned on the air con and I was suddenly sitting in a wind tunnel, i held up my paper napkin and it was flapping in the draft. I asked the waitress to turn it down, which she did thankfully. Every other time we’ve dined at Black Toro, it’s been packed but this time it wasn’t busy at all.
Service a bit haphazard. Mistakes with orders. Waitress finished off bottle of wine in 1 glass rather than sharing around table. Food nice but felt rushed.
Surprisingly good. The "Feed me" option seemed a good idea and provided ample food for us two people with a good variety of dishes. Very enjoyable evening.
We have been to the Black Toro many times. The evening started well, we ordered from a set menu (they had to double-check if we could have that option because we had 3 children)- it was overpriced but we do not mind paying for a good dining experience. Except the experience was nothing short of disappointing and we were embarrassed to have invited friends over. When we asked the waitress for the dessert menu, she told us we had only 15 minutes and therefore could not order dessert- we came in at 6:15 and we were asked to leave before 8. Perhaps asking us 30 minutes before if we wanted dessert would have been an idea. Nonetheless, we asked if we could order dessert for the children, we were told they could choose from the ice-cream or sorbet option. 5 minutes later, she came back and told us they were out of sorbet. By then we had decided to leave and asked for the cheque. We were two families so we asked for a split bill. The waitress then proceeded to tell us they did not do split bills. We are big foodies and have eaten in very high profile restaurants around Victoria- even and they do split bills. They saw we were irritated and agreed to a split bill- the card surcharge was $2.5. It is a pretentious joint, parading as a high-end restaurant, in an area bustling with food offerings. We are never going there again. We had better service at less known joints. The staff could learn a thing or two about customer service if they are serious about continuing in the hospitality and culinary industry.
Decent food, bit overpriced for what it is. Music doesn’t really suit the setting. Wait staff aren’t overly attentive. Overall not a bad experience.
We keep going back. The Salmon tartare is by far my fav dish. Also , check out the tempura fish taco. Amazing food and service. Reasonably priced too
Great food and service.
Great restaurant! The fish tacos were amazing!!
We have had previous meals at The Black Toro that were amazing. The food was average on the night, expensive and the variety did not meet the expectation we had from our previous experiences. We arrived earlier than our booking and were still reminded 4 times before our orders were taken about the time we needed to vacate the table.
Really good food and value
The staff was welcoming and the ambiance really nice. I have been waiting to try Black Toro for a while so was very happy to be celebrating an occasion with some friends. Unfortunately, I wasn’t impressed with the Barramundi. The green/red paste had no taste. It was small portion for a main meal. The tacos, slider and salad looked good so maybe I will try something else next time.
Excellent service and good food.
You can’t go past Toro food never disappoints
Service was quick and efficient Food extremely tasty We arrived on World Taco Day so was treated to $4 Tacos and $8 frozen margaritas, a real bargain and we had all 4 on offer and they were a taste sensation
Would love to try the cocktails next time. Food was delicious. Messy but yum.
Very quick service with getting food however was a bit slow with getting plates cleared and drinks. Enjoy the smaller plates however disappointed with mains. The seating is very tight and hard to manoeuvre around.

The Black Toro opened its doors in 2012 and hasn’t looked back since. This restaurant was created with the desire to bring a higher level of dining to the bustling Kingsway strip, and is inspired by the colorful eateries of Latin America. Fore fronted by Head Chef Garen Maskal, The Black Toro aims to provide a new and fresh approach to Hispanic cuisine reworked to a Modern Australian palate. The dining room is classy and brought to life by the mural of a large black toro painted on one wall. The menu moves with the seasons and always has a fresh focus - start with a few small plates before diving into a large bowl of barbecued chili chicken with cumin caramel, toasted sesame and Mexican pilaf. With knowledgeable staff working the floor we’re sure you will have an amazing experience entailing a combination of innovative food, clever cocktails and a boutique wine list - what could be better?
Best dish: Crispy pork belly, guajillo chilli glaze & fragrant herbs.
