Gather at the foot of the Bridge... Kirribilli’s first small bar from the team behind Bondi Hardware, SoCal & The Butler has all the DNA of a loud and lively bar, but it also synthesises all we've come to expect from contemporary Sydney restaurants: the lighting is glow-in-the-dark low, the tables and chairs are high-rise with stools, and the food runs from sliders to pizzas to pan fried haloumi and all manner of share plates. Expect to see detail with a botanical and exploratory theme, the boys have made reference to eccentric, globetrotting English botanist named Gerard Fothergill, who moved to Australia late in life and ran a small bookshop on the now Botanist site until his death in 1932. The travels of the illustrious botanist have informed the charming logo (pith helmet, spectacles, bow tie), in the cocktail list, and in chef Timo Vogel’s appropriately globetrotting menu. The Botanist is a welcome addition to Kirribilli, there hasn’t been a spot this hot for a casual mid-week catch up with friends before. Thank you Carroll & Watts. Best dish: Lamb kofta or king crab and prawn sliders.
