My son and I enjoyed the fine dining experience. Presented so wonderfully. The tastes, the flavours of especially the starters share platter was such a good choice, as we got to taste at least 7/8 different delights. All very flavoursome!

Lovely, friendly service. A bit pricey, especially considering $42 for a plate with only meat on it. Nice atmosphere and decor.

Food was lovely but serves were small for the cost. Service was great and appreciated the recommendation of the Michael Unwin Muscat.

As usual the food was delicious, though 3 of our 4 diners ordered the same main (the lamb) & we all felt it needed, in the words of Manu Fidel, “sauce” but the service really let’s this place down. We didn’t receive any of their usual, freshly sliced bread. They ran out of ingredients for both drink & some food. Though it wasn’t late (10pm) & we were the last table, we felt they could have waited till we left to start cleaning tables, around us, & setting out the next mornings breakfast.

Not knowing what to expect every moment there was a delight. Comparable with any of Melbournes best. We felt welcome and the flavours danced on the tongue. Will most definitely be returning with friends. Thanks, Amanda and Peter.

The meat share starter did not fit the description on the menu. We were expecting more vegetables and a selection of mustards. Without the bread on offer we would not have been able to eat it. We also order the share steak and lamb plates - both sensational. Part of the reason behind ordering these plates was that they both came with sides as per the menu. Really dislike having to order sides as extras - would assume that all meals would come with them.

We rated our experience very highly. The staff were exceptionally friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. There were however a few long gaps in service which would have made our rating perfect. The ambience was warm and convivial on a cold night. The food and drinks were all very good. Definitely worth a return visit and would recommend visitors to Ballarat treating themselves to a meal or stay at Craigs Hotel. Historically second to none in regional Victoria.

What a gorgeous interior Craigs has - the gallery's high ceiling, brick detail & chandeliers are stunning. A great menu, the neals where delicious. We also enjoyed a lovely SB wine.. thank-you for a lovely meal..

We were served so professionally which makes the whole occasion very special. It is on the expensive side but you do get your moneys worth. I haven’t enjoyed a steak that much for a long time!

About the restaurant

Fit For a King or Queen

Like to do a bit of name-dropping? Then dine at the Gallery @ Craig’s Royal in the heart of Ballarat, where British royals as well as Don Bradman are counted among the historic guests. The Gallery Bistro is sophisticated and classy, making it an ideal setting for special occasions. In its airy and opulent atrium, The Gallery serves modern fare that’s anything by ordinary. If you don’t choose to sit in the light filled glass-roofed conservatory, then you can sit in the historic courtyard for a more informal meal. The Gallery Bistro serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, and the menus change seasonally to showcase the freshest ingredients. For lunch you’re likely to find several fresh salad and vegetable selections. There might be duck leg served with carrot and orange puree on the menu, or a mustard and herb-coated pork cutlet. And don’t skimp when it comes to dessert at The Gallery Bistro. After all, you’re dining like a royal.
