Thom Gorringe

Our Head Chef Thom Gorringe hails from the Southern Highlands, and worked as head chef at Eschalot before moving to Bentley and more recently, The Gantry in 2016. He was a finalist in the Electrolux Young Chef of the Year in 2017 and took over The Gantry top role in 2018. Thom's effortless craftsmanship and storytelling is woven into an honest and uncomplicated approach to sustainably sourced and fresh foraged ingredients.

Degustation menu is really good value- food is delicious and portions quite generous. Only the service was unfortunately lacking, but they did have the good grace to take the charge off the bill for drinks that took about an hour to arrive.

Second time visiting here and the food was great like my first visit! However, service was quite slow. I saw two waiters plus the host on the floor when I visited for lunch. I would visit again though. I love the outdoor area and the fact that it is dog friendly. I was told there is even a dog menu so will definitely come back with my dog.

A great pre- theatre venue in a beautiful setting at Walsh Bay. Our pre- theatre menu was delicious and really good value. Being so close to the STC theatre in Hickson Road made it a really enjoyable evening. Thank you.

Whilst the service was a little on the slow side, that could be excused given it was Easter Sunday, however the menu, staff and quality of food was excellent. Somewhat of a hidden gem amongst Sydney’s many great restaurants and a great spot for special occasion or a romantic first date.

The service is so terrible that it made the food unpleasant. I would not be recommending any corporate or personal dining here. The wait staff were so unattentive and hard to flag down, this restaurant may benefit in installing those bells on the table in order for the customer to get some sort of attention. You'd also think that someone would check with you to see how your meal is going, top up your water, serve what we actually ordered.... but no! Instead, we have to ask someone again and again. Just finding someone to tend to our table was a quest in itself! Also all the sommelier did was talk to people in the kitchen, taste a lot of wines on the wine table (repeated action), talk to 2 tables for the night who needed help in ordering wine, and float around doing nothing. Why bother?

Good Food Reader Event - $130 pp

About The Gantry Restaurant

The Gantry Restaurant Located within the luxurious Pier One Sydney Harbour Hotel, this hatted venue offers Modern Australian al fresco dining with sweeping views of Walsh Bay and Sydney Harbour. Paying homage to The Rocks’ heritage charm while simultaneously adopting a modern vibe, The Gantry is very dapper indeed. The intimate industrial inspired space is fitted out with solid timber floors, weathered wooden columns, mellow blues, off whites, floor-to-ceiling- glass windows and a number of tables out on the pier maximising the extraordinary water views. Executive Chef, Thom Gorringe, has created a tasty menu focusing on freshly foraged produce and punters can dine a la carte, or opt for the degustation feast. Think of it as laid back fine dining!
