Too noisy / service poor staff still training as indicated in others review/ entree served after/with main meals/steak tough/ salmon over cooked as were vegetables
We love the Great Northern and go there very often since we live locally. I was disappointed when I ordered the schnitzel with salad and chips, and the chefs seemed to have confused the garnish for salad. some alfalfa and 2 small pieces of carrot can surely not count as a salad? Would be great if this could be rectified.
Garlic beard was very dry, when asked by wait staff how it was, and when they were told it was dry, the reply was bread is dry. When ordering the main meal, there was a new person behind the bar taking the order, who got confused. Thought the order was sorted; however, received the wrong cut of steak. Asked for ice in the glass of wine, which was added before the wine; which, meant that less wine was added that what should have been.
Thursday night 'trivia' bad time to sit and have a meal. Way too noisy. The restaurant should be kept as a stand alone area.
Service was great, staff friendly and entrees we shared were up there with the best we have ever tried but the mains weren’t. Scotch fillets were thin, grizzly, fatty and not quite cooked to order, salad bland but sauce, chats and chips were good. Steak sandwiches should have been on thick cut toast and came on on buns and steak tough. Would recommend for afternoon drinks with share plates
Bar service was great, food was excellent, it just took 30 minutes plus to come out and it was only the basic cheap eats lunch menu and there were only about 4 other tables in.
Nice fresh updates. Good sized meals.
The service at the bar was not great. Which also hurt as that is where you ordered dinner. They had run out of post mix lemonade which tasted horrible and when I ordered the Crumbed lamb cutlets, I asked for Potato Mash and gravy and received roast potato's and no gravy (server kindly went and got me some). Cutlets were great but let down by the bar service.
Great food and a wonderful old place thoughtfully renovated. Keep up the good work.
Unfortunately they didn’t have enough staff for the number of dinner guests. The two girls were working behind the bar and managing the restaurant and they were stressed. Our food was very late and not exactly right, the prawn fettuccine was lacking in fettuccine (very small meals) the cutlets were served with veg not chips and salad and the veges were either over cooked or undercooked. It was not the best night
Nice open feel with good disabled access
We went for Valentines Day - there was a special dinner menu that was great value and gave us a chance to taste a few different things. The staff were really friendly and had a lovely night.
Beautiful atmosphere. $15 lunch menu was fantastic. Large portions and delicious. Will definitely be back!
Lovely decor that enhances the mood at night, amazing looking bar and top service! The GNH successfully promotes the classier hotel feel while also delivering a laid back feel at the same time. Will be coming back! Also, the arancini is a MUST try!
Not impressed. They did not have our booking, they just advised us to take a seat at a non reserved table. The tables were a touch too high for the chairs., and the noise made it difficult for conversation.
