From Buenos Aires to Gembrook The Independent is a casual restaurant and bar found at Puffing Billy’s last stop - Gembrook. It is a food hub - with menus designed by Argentinian chef, Mauro Callegari. Produce is sourced as locally as possible, for guests to enjoy a beautiful seasonal sharing menu. Mauro’s dishes are influenced by his upbringing in Argentina and passion for Spanish, Italian, Creole and North African flavours. The Independent offers a $58 set menu for lunch and dinner which is designed daily by Mauro, Manuel and the kitchen team and it's truly something special. Open for lunch and dinner, Wednesday to Sunday, and with the bar and kitchen remaining open all afternoon, this is the ideal spot for locals and visitors to the Dandenongs and Yarra Valley area. Favourite dishes are the suckling pig and slow roasted lamb shoulder, however majority of the menu can satisfy the needs of many gluten free and vegan diners.
