Haven’t been to The Malaya for quite some time. Really glad to be back! Quality and varied range of excellent dishes still right up there. Great service, dish and drink delivery. Thanks Team!

As someone who travels to Singapore at least once a month I was expecting more. The food is good, the setting nice, the staff attentive, the previous reviews had me expecting outstanding but I don’t believe it is. Dishes we tried no better than we have had elsewhere, good flavour, reasonable quantity but no pizzaz.

We've held dinners here recently for 5,6 and 8. The bookings are easy, the staff are helpful, capable and very obliging, the food is delicious and varied, the spacing in and views from the restaurant are great. The $71 menu provides satays, vegetarian dishes, beef, chicken, prawns, delightful spices and textures. The wine list is nicely varied (though only 2 Sauv Blancs) and all guests have been delighted. For a smaller group, there are plenty of great and affordable choices. Parking is a drag, as Sydney becomes increasingly unfriendly to cars, and the mobs of distracted and inattentive taxis in narrow roads are frustrating to the extreme. That is the only negative, really, in a wonderful dining experience.

Service as always is on point at The Malaya! Warm greetings upon arrival, timely check ins for drinks or additional orders. The food...Devine. My fav salt n pepper prawns right here! Can never go past the Otak Otak either! Cocktail menu is delicious too.

We had the best table with the best waiter I ever had! The food was amazing but it was the waiter who made our night. He had to cope with food allergies and kids food and his cheerful manner made it all possible with the best possible results. Wish I knew his name.

The Malaya is the standard by which I measure all other Malaysian restaurants, I have been visiting it for over 20 years in its various locations the latest one in King St Wharf (Lime St) is more upmarket but worth it for the location and the atmosphere with the same great food.

Was very disappointed as we were looking forward to this dine. The atmosphere is what put us off, it is not fine dining as the price suggests. Bistro feeling. Food was ok, nothing more than your local asian restaurant in the suburbs. Wine selection was good. Service was ok.

The food and ambience was fabulous and our waitress was absolutely wonderful. She looked after us so well and knew instinctively when we required next course, more wine and ice. Please thank her, unfortunately I didn't get her name. We dined on Thursday 31 Oct at 12.30

Staff were welcoming and atmosphere was great. Food was delicious, but there was a bit of a wait between entree and main being served. Other than that, we had a great night.

Always great. Fast, hot, tasty and the staff are so friendly and welcoming. They were very accommodating to guests with dietary requirements and didn't rush us out the door

We went there for our birthday dinner as we heard very nice reviews and recommendation from friends. We are so happy we went there, all the food was beautiful except affogato which was different from our expectation. We will definitely go back again to try other dishes!

The Malaya is a family favourite with my husband coming to this Malaya and two previous venues for over 35 years! The prawn sambal is his favourite dish despite being told every time that it is upper hot! It is super hot but unbelievably tasty. The beer or wine helps to ease the spicy sweats! We cannot fault this amazing restaurant and it's authentic food. Always a pleasure!

About the restaurant

A night of spice...

For over 50 years, The Malaya has been serving up dishes that test taste buds with authentic spicy dishes based on traditional south east Asian cuisine. And judging from the groups of corporate diners and holidaygoers who crowd the Malaya's steeland-glass interiors day after day, they are clearly doing something right. Think you can handle chilli? See how spiceresistant you really are by putting your palate to the test with the 'extra hot' sambal. Located in Darling Harbour, the restaurant not only promises astonishing food but stunning sweeping waterviews in a contemporary and welcoming setting. Signature dishes include the spanner crab san choy bow for entrée and the delicious Duck Perchik for main. No matter what you choose you’re in for a real treat when you dine at The Malaya.

Best dish: Duck Perchik
