What a treat! Enjoying the view on a sunny Sydney day over a wonderful meal. Food cooked to perfection and was really flavoursome. Mocktails were divine. Whole family thoroughly enjoyed our lunch at the Malaya. Will definitely come again.
The Malaya is one of our favourite Sydney restaurant of all time. Thankfully it is still open despite COVID closing a lot of other restaurants. Social distancing and sensitisation as you walk in is well observed. But the cuisine is just so good.
The food was amazing and come in generous portion. We did the 65pp menu and got 7 dishes. Great value. Service was great. Staff very attentive and polite.
The Malaya was a great restaurant in the past, it’s certainly gone downhill. The flavors are no longer complex or authentic. The food reminded me of mass produced flavors from a bottle, some dishes actually tasted identical, the salt and pepper prawns were coated in a thick RSL club style batter, the chicken was very chewy and gelatinous.
Always great food
The Malaya is always a treat from the moment you walk in. The food is magnificent, in particular the Otak Otak, Salt and Pepper prawns and Rendang but there's no bad dish on the menu. The service is always friendly and efficient and the space is modern and tasteful. The cocktails are great and the wine list good and fairly priced. What more could you want?
To start with the outstanding stuff... the food is exceptional. True Asian tastes and plenty of it meaning you get great value for money. The restaurant is well run for how big it is and how busy it gets. One thing I’d suggest they look at changing is the drinks list. Not much choice if you want wine by the glass and if buying by the bottle it’s mainly local wines with no international variety.
Highly recommended restaurant with traditional Malaysian and Chinese options. Otak Otak is a must!!
Always amazing food, great service and safe during the pandemic!
Great restaurant. During these strange times we find ourselves in, it is good to see that the simplified menu works really well with the expectations that I had for this restaurant. Great food, caring service staff and very quick.
Outstanding food and service. Choices were amazing. We all had a wonderful night
Food was delicious, highly recommend the eggplant main and laksa !
Oh my goodness. The food is so flavoursome and serving sizes plentiful. Was a treat to return after a long absence (about 5 years). As good as I remembered.
We had a set menu. I heard so much about this place but we think the food was pretty average. Don’t think we need to go back. Service was great though.
As always food was superb and service was excellent!
Very friendly and professional welcome. Thank you for seating us at a window table as requested????. So many great choices from the menu, fabulous roti. Chicken satay was cooked beautifully but sadly satay sauce was disappointing as lacked flavour. Warm and friendly service and great view. Glad we tried The Malay after not been for many years.
Excellent food and good value!
Very good food with lots of flavour
Food is always fantastic, keep coming back and never disappoints. Will continue to eat The Malaya, love love this food. Thoroughly recommended if you haven't eaten here before.
Very underwhelming considering the cost. Would not recommend.

A night of spice...
For over 50 years, The Malaya has been serving up dishes that test taste buds with authentic spicy dishes based on traditional south east Asian cuisine. And judging from the groups of corporate diners and holidaygoers who crowd the Malaya's steeland-glass interiors day after day, they are clearly doing something right. Think you can handle chilli? See how spiceresistant you really are by putting your palate to the test with the 'extra hot' sambal. Located in Darling Harbour, the restaurant not only promises astonishing food but stunning sweeping waterviews in a contemporary and welcoming setting. Signature dishes include the spanner crab san choy bow for entrée and the delicious Duck Perchik for main. No matter what you choose you’re in for a real treat when you dine at The Malaya.
Best dish: Duck Perchik
