The dishes are always good, the staff are friendly and accommodating when we requested to change our upstairs table to downstairs.
We all had steak however the medium was a little over done but tasty. It was a very busy night so very noisy and service a little slow but we were not in a hurry. Expensive with wine but we had been before so knew it wasn’t going to be a cheap night. We would return.
Excellent food. Ribs and steaks were cooked to perfection. Really good value with The Fork 50% offer. Cocktails were nice too. Highly recommend!
I usually find the food consistently good here, but lately and especially on this latest occasion it was disappointing. It started with us needing to get attention to place our order, followed by wine being served late into the meal (we also had to get attention to order our wine as well, and we had to remind them to serve it). The wedge salad we ordered without Blue Cheese came out as two wedges of plain lettuce with dressing in separate tubs, no bacon, no shallots, no tomatoes, just two large wedges of lettuce with dressing. When we asked for the other bits, they came out one by one, after we reminded them what else was mentioned in the menu (which the waiters need to seek evidence for). I was actually embarrassed by their service as I was bringing my friends here for the first time. Having said all that, the steak was good, and consistently so with my past visits. It was such a shame that the service and the salad was so disappointing. Lastly towards the end of the evening, as we were seated near the open Kitchen, all we could hear was loud banging noises, the chef seemed to be fighting with the pots and pans during cleaning up, with no regard whatsoever for the remaining guests in the restaurant. The banging was loud, but every now and then, it was sharp and sudden, giving us a fright (it was as if they dropped some large items a few times). Very odd experience indeed.
Great well cooked steaks, perfect atmosphere.
Great food and atmosphere.
Great food & service. Will be back.
Amazing across all fronts and amazingly consistent at that. A true favourite that never disappoints and one that I continue to come back to. I recommend the beef tartare, the calamari definitely as well as the pork and beef ribs, the dessert platter and obviously it goes without saying the selection of juicy top quality steaks! Such great value for the quality also.
We were really disappointed with the meal, as half of the meals came out cold from the kitchen. These dishes were seen to be sitting on the serving counter waiting for the remainder of the meals to be ready, by the time they arrived at the table they were stone cold. We understand that the waiters at the restaurant were not to blame for this, there has to have been a disconnect / miscommunication in the kitchen for this to occur. All four meals were returned to the kitchen and served again, however, despite this, they remained luke warm and almost inedible. One meal (beef skewers) was so tough to cut and eat, it was no better than what I could do in my own kitchen with 2nd grade beef. One steak was returned and it was zapped in the microwave - it remained inedible. Staff were apologetic and tried to fix the issues. We had previously been there before, and had enjoyed a lovely meal, this time we were sorely disappointed, it ruined anniversary and birthday celebrations for 2 of the people whose meals were substandard. Hope they lift their game, we won't be returning in a hurry.
Lovely food and services, African featured interior. Steaks are well cooked with balanced taste. My only recommendation is that 400g steak is a bit too much if you also had entree, unless you are really hungry of course ;)
Service was impeccable, entrees were good but frankly the $79 wagyu ribeye with supposedly grade 6 marbling was really not that good at all. Don’t get me wrong, it was perfectly cooked medium rare as we requested but it didn’t taste like a prime cut of wagyu beef. Also the pork ribs were essentially meatless and were nothing special - a lot of people could do better just at home.... I’m glad I tried it with the 50% off discount because I would have been salty af if I had to pay for those disappointing mains full price...
I’ve been here many times - the eye fillet was cooked perfectly as usual, and the chips are always golden and crunchy! Fantastic service and good wine list, it’s definitely my local favourite!
The ribs and steak are very delicious . Will definitely come again
Have dined at Meat and Wine Co twice over the last two weeks. Consistent and good food quality and service. Only disappointment is that both times the bill has had to be requested to be adjusted for the Fork booking.
Excellent food, steak is consistently good here. Atmosphere always welcoming, but table near the counter is quite warm and it was a very warm night. Dessert platter perfect for 3-5 sharing providing a great variety of 4 desserts.
It was our second visit to Meat & Wine. First time was for lunch but tonight it was for dinner. Was not disappointed. Friendly waiters and delicious food. To finish the night, we couldn't leave without having some dessert. We shared the chocolate fondant n a creme brulee. Would definitely recommend it to my friends and will go there again
Honestly the best meat in Melbourne! The atmosphere was amazing and the waiters really looked after us. We came here for my boyfriends birthday and he said hands down the best ribs he’s ever had in his life!! If you want to fine dine in a cosy yet elegant restaurant I highly suggest this place and book in advance!

Went there for my mothers birthday and they provided a desert with happy birthday written in chocolate on the plate as well as a sparkler!. Thank you to everyone at the Meat and Wine Co.
482 Riversdale Road, 3123, Hawthorn East, Australia
Paddock to plate Popping up out of the old English, Scottish and Australia bank, a heritage-listed beauty on Camberwell junction, The Meat & Wine Co of East Hawthorn offer up a sophisticated steakhouse dining experience in the heart of old Melbourne. This one’s for the serious meat lover, with all the classic steak and rib options on offer. The Portuguese prawns and beef Carpaccio are good starters but it’s when the short rib steak arrives before you, having slow cooked for eight hours, you know they mean business. So serious are the folks at The Meat & Wine Co about their dishes, that beef is sourced exclusively from Monte Beef, the producers of some of Australia’s finest Angus Beef. A gorgeous range of sauces will keep even the biggest sceptic in check (watch out for that African Hot Chilli), and there’s plenty more alternatives on the menu too, such as their lamb shanks, flame-grilled skewers and even kangaroo – why not? And with three more locations on the east coast, this swish, modern take on the humble steakhouse is catching on. Best dish: short rib steak
