Expensive at $100 a head but SO worth it. You get what you pay for and both our meals were first class !!! We had boerewors and haloumi to start followed by a steak each. I had a fillet - the best ever - cooked to perfection and SO tasty, the basting taste is great. Service was amazing. Only criticism would be that the tables upstairs are close together so not terribly private for talking. We will be back for the next special occasion. Thanks so much !!

Hi Meat & Wine Co Hawthorn East, Thanks greatly for the service last night. This is the third time I have been to Meat & Wine Co, and on every occasion I have left feeling satisfied with the service provided. I left a $10 tip last night, which reiterates my satisfaction with the Meat & Wine Co. Keep up the great work.

Unfortunately our latest visit to the meat and wine co. was not a pleasant experience which was really disappointing as every other time we have gone there it has been really good. Problems in the kitchen and poorly cooked steaks, hopefully just an off night and not a regular occurrence

Really just go for the ribs platter. Disappointed this time that lamb ribs were not available.

We were at the 5:45 booking. When we booked couldn’t get any other time. We are aware you need the spot for another seating. But we did feel a bit rushed. The waitress seemed to quickly take our plates away, kept on us asking about ordering...when we weren’t ready. Had to say we need more time. This was off-putting. The meal was delicious. But you need to train staff not to rush people! Probably would have had more drinks but felt we had to go. Other restaurants we haven’t felt like this

About the restaurant

Paddock to plate Popping up out of the old English, Scottish and Australia bank, a heritage-listed beauty on Camberwell junction, The Meat & Wine Co of East Hawthorn offer up a sophisticated steakhouse dining experience in the heart of old Melbourne. This one’s for the serious meat lover, with all the classic steak and rib options on offer. The Portuguese prawns and beef Carpaccio are good starters but it’s when the short rib steak arrives before you, having slow cooked for eight hours, you know they mean business. So serious are the folks at The Meat & Wine Co about their dishes, that beef is sourced exclusively from Monte Beef, the producers of some of Australia’s finest Angus Beef. A gorgeous range of sauces will keep even the biggest sceptic in check (watch out for that African Hot Chilli), and there’s plenty more alternatives on the menu too, such as their lamb shanks, flame-grilled skewers and even kangaroo – why not? And with three more locations on the east coast, this swish, modern take on the humble steakhouse is catching on. Best dish: short rib steak
