The food was excellent really loved the lamb shank and my son enjoyed the portugese chicken skewer. Prices are on the expensive side but anywhere in the Southbank area is the same. Just thought the lighting was a bit dim if you are there with family. Overall happy.

We arrived to be told our table was a 10 minute wait even though our table was empty. After 20 we asked how long. We were taken to our seats. After ordering never saw a waiter again. Food was not what was ordered.

Food was nice and came in as what we expected. Staff members are so friendly and helpful. The air conditioning wasn't enough in where we seat, but still acceptable in such a 39 degree hot day.

The service is not on pair to the Sydney branch. Upon arrival we asked for sparkling water and menus and they never arrived. After 15 mins waiting we had to wave at one of the waitresses to get them. Note our booking was at 4pm, so not the busiest time. There were no colouring books nor distractions for the kids. After waiting for the pre-arranged birthday dessert that never arrived, despite double confirming via phone. Only then informed us it wasn’t complimentary anymore and they didn’t have the drums the Sydney branch has. We ordered the desert and instead of bringing it, they informed us the table was already booked for someone else and we needed to move to the bar, kids, drinks and all. There was no mention of this at the time of booking. We moved to the bar, ordered and then received everyone’s desserts but the birthday person, of course the kids just devoured immediately, before we could even sing. Once again after waiting we had to follow up to were his dessert was. And to finish it all I had a $5 surcharge during payment and the attendant couldn’t explain what that it was for. Not the best experience with a brand we are very familiar with.

At first, wagyu rump was disappointing - tough to chew, no intramuscular fat, no melt-in mouth effect, unlike wagyu. Fortunately, it got replaced by the dry-age bone-in ribeye which was fabulous - thumbs up for the great service! For sides, mac and cheese was nice (after adding salt), and sweet potato fries were super good!

Always a good experience when dining here. However they tried to charge us $9 for still water ( it was filtered tap water in a mineral water bottle with a half ripped label. It was on the bill at the end of the night but they took the charge off once question. Food was good, (7out of 10) i have had better but yes it was a fully booked restaurant. overall experience was still great

This was my first time visiting The Meat & Wine Co, the food and wine was good, I would not recommend the cocktails, very average. Service was on the slow side considering there seemed to be ample staff.

Food was great and consistent with previous visits, food could be warmer though. Wine list could be improved but overall decent service and a nice meal.

About the restaurant

The name says it all

This well-loved steak house has grown from other restaurants owned and named in the same vein. Australian cuisine is served with an African twist; highlighting the beautiful array of spices and different ways of cooking the lovely produce that they so reverently insist on serving their loyal customer base. A few token vegetarian dishes ensure that there are sufficient sides for the lighter eater, including a lovely Tuscan kale salad, a chickpea salad and a Greek version that is hard to beat. Starters include some delicious sounding teasers - Szechuan calamari, seared beef carpaccio and Boerwors, a delish African beef sausage. It is most definitely the selection of meat cuts that deserve your attention here: choose from a huge range of specially-aged and highly rated meats. Their side sauces are to die for - African hot chilli, Meranda Valley mushroom, and a homemade barbeque relish. The décor here is almost industrial - all polished materials including a very slick bar and cosy mannish couches and shelving. It all works, however, and the result is a very high-end, busy bar and restaurant.
