Was with a party of 3, mid-week dining. Great food, not too noisy, excellent service. Staff were friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. Definitely worth visiting.
The food was absolutely delicious, and plentiful. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Even to the point of asking a group of terribly loud patrons to quieten down so everyone else could enjoy themselves. Highly recommend this place. But groups - please be respectful of other patrons :-).
Great view and vibe
Great buzz in the venue
Great place for a first date. Also has space for a large group.
The Panama provides an amazing atmosphere for a night out dining in Fitzroy. The ambient lighting, soft music and unique look create a relaxed environment to dine. The staff were all professional, friendly and gave an excellent level of service. Regularly checking on our table and topping up our drinks. The food came out really quickly after ordering, my partner and I had the gnocchi and the chicken. Both very tasty and presented very neatly. I would highly recommend the Panama for a nice night out in Fitzroy with high quality service, food and venue.
The service was professional but warm and the venue was well presented. The food was very lacklustre and uninspiring, despite reading well on the menu. Not great value for money.
Great service and food - a hidden gem ????
One hour wait between entrees and mains, then 2 dishes served cold. Corn salad almost bereft of corn; many dishes lacked flavour. Cocktails were good. Staff were apologetic but that doesn’t make up for a disappointing experience.
Great selection of food. Good service. Was a little loud because of large group and they were rowdy. Other than that had a great night.
We had a fabulous meal. Service and food was fantastic!
Loved this restaurant! Great atmosphere and interior design, delicious food and beautifully balanced house cocktails. Service staff very attentive and knowledgeable too.
Good for drinks but food was average
I've been to The Panama Dining Room many times before, and the restaurant is usually pumping and full of people. On this occasion (Thursday night), the restaurant was empty. The menu has also changed - it's more 'creative' than I remember. Some of the dishes were great, whilst others fell a bit flat.
This place is so loud. While great atmosphere, not ideal for romantic date night.
The Staff were attentive and really genuinely friendly, It feels like there was always someone there to answer questions when we needed them. Water and wine top ups frequent, Best service we've had in ages in a busy restaurant
Excellent decor. Food is very fresh and full of flavour. Good cuts of meat and fish. Cocktails are especially fantastic.
Everything was great! I would elevate my selection from question 3 to fine dining if the general opinion about the mains were better than good. Some reviews of the food include Gnocchi didn't taste fresh, Vegetables with the pork were tough, crackling on pork was hard. To conclude, the general consensus was that the price of the mains didn't accurately reflect the quality of the food. Otherwise, as the organiser of the large number of patrons, the staff were super helpful, accomodating with the birthday cake, plates and cutlery and available if I needed assistance! Will definitely come again! Thank you!
We were served by 2 ladies, one was polite & thorough & the other one was too casual & not thorough (friendly enough). We ordered “feed me” menu as it seemed plenty of dishes for the price (I do recommend this menu). I read “the menu changes daily, so please contact us for more information” online, but they couldn’t tell us what will be served on the day, it’s “surprise”. We took this “surprise” but we found it was weird. They should know what they serve on the day unless they change the menu per table. The thorough lady told us what each dish was when she brought them to our table, but the other non-thorough lady just left dishes without telling us what they were. We would want to know what we would be eating since we didn’t know what we would be served. I found seating was a bit uncomfortable as all guests were packed in one area of the restaurant next to each other while there were more space & many empty tables to be used in this open area. I understand if it was Friday or Saturday night, expecting all tables will be used, but it was Monday night & more than half tables were empty.
Cocktails were weak. Service was slow. Food was good but overpriced.

Fitzroy’s Hidden Gem
Hidden up a set of inconspicuous stairs off Smith Street, and through scuffed, heavy doors is Panama Dining Room - one of Fitzroy’s most atmospheric bars. Simple yet stylish, but definitely low-key, the large loft space is furnished with a hodgepodge of tables, lounges, bar stools and a pool table, offering views of Fitzroy, Collingwood and the CBD through giant arched windows. Panama is perfect for a mid week wine or beer with friends but be prepared for crowds on the weekends, they come thick and fast. This feel-good hidden gem also serves up delicious European fare, with solid snack offerings also available at the bar, or over a game of pool. But be sure to book, like we said, she gets busy!
