Excellent
I have been going to The Royal for years. It's a nice place with old-fashioned good food and service. The staff are always pleasant and the ambiance is warm and friendly. Highly recommended !!
The Royal has always been a family favourite for us. The atmosphere is beautiful, the service is alway excellent and the food is fantastic. Probably a little expensive for the serving sizes but the flavours are amazing.
Quality of food very poor for $200 plus for 4. Calamari floury, prawns in linguini over cooked. $40 steak was appalling for price. It is an amazing venue with great service team but it seems somewhere corners are cut either on staffing or quality of food. The venue is wonderful and the service team always try their best but the food has now been way below par too many times. Just not good enough. Can go to lots of other Mornington or mt Martha restaurants for less and have much better food and the same service.
We live locally and this hotel has been a favourite. It has experienced changes in management and style, not all positive, but now we like it again. Stylish decor, small but excellent menu and one of Mornington’s best example of 19th century architectural grandeur.
Food atmosphere and view have always been the highlight at the Royal ????
Had to order from the bar, rather than full waiter/waitress service and the kitchen is only open until 8.30pm, but otherwise food was fantastic and the views from the veranda are beautiful, especially at sun set.
Great food great views!
We have dined at the Royal often and always enjoyed it....staff are great ???? and food is delicious. There are a variety of dining options.....formal or casual, indoors or outside. We had lunch in the main dining room then coffee and dessert in front of the open fire at the Bar .....perfect!
The Royal’s size and quality of their meals have gone downhill. Won’t be returning which is unfortunate because it used to be one of my favourite spots in Mornington
Good food, reasonable drink selection, appropriate round table for large group, service was fine but far too noisy. With 8 at our table it was hard to talk over the loud background music
The food is always good at the Royal. A dependable favourite. Quick service, maybe too quick sometimes but always excellent food. Staff are always friendly.
Poor Bar service, Poor table service, Poor value for money. I invited good friends and felt very ashamed of my choice
My thoughts were it was a bit overpriced for the meals an not much variety on the menu .. but stil enjoy The food
We will be back
Enjoyable lunch at nice venue, bit of confusion re ordering meal at different registers once that sorted all good! I feel that this Restuarant would be much better with table service instead of queing to put your orders in, food very tasty, just seems to be lacking in the service area.
Enjoyable lunch
Staff were helpful and friendly. We six could find no fault with anything. As we all want to pay separately we are pleased with the system of ordering and paying at the bar.
Very enjoyable
Service was very ordinary. Food was well cooked however quite overpriced for a pub meal
Lovely atmosphere but food average

Dine Like Royalty Sitting on the Esplanade in scenic Mornington, The Royal Hotel is steeped in local history. Today, the Royal Tavern, or back bar, offers up modern pub fare and drinks in a relaxed seaside setting. There’s an outdoor beer garden with stunning views of the bay and Melbourne skyline. On the weekends, you’ll find live entertainment, including an acoustic soloist on Saturday evenings and a DJ on Sunday afternoons. The bistro at The Royal Hotel draws culinary inspiration from around the world. You can choose from a great selection of Aussie wines plus an array of bottled or on-tap beer. There are plates to share, including sticky sesame chicken wings or local mussels. Royal fixtures include baby barramundi fish and chips or chicken parma for those who like to stick to the classics. There are also a few surprises in store on the bistro menu, including a Japanese crumbed pork dish and a barbeque duck salad with crispy noodles. If you spy the dessert menu, you’ll want to leave some room. The cinnamon doughnuts with chocolate sauce and dukkah praline are a must. Best dish: Lamb rack with baba ghanoush
