Covid really has changed the atmosphere of so many places but our first experience here for my boyfriends birthday was a great one. Two cheeses, two meats (we told the waiter what we liked and let him pick for us!) plus the Kangaroo and Cauliflower- only slight disappointment was the wine on the wine list we ordered was a 2016, they only had the 2017.

Always beautiful cheeses, even though portions on the small side. Porchetta and leek tarts were beautiful. Baked cheese cake delicious. Service is efficient.

Lovely cheese and meat menu with a good but small wine list. Definitely worth a second visit to try more of the cheese selection. A must visit for any cheese aficionado.

The food was excellent. SO. DARN. YUMMY. The staff are knowledgeable and accommodating and a lot of fun. I’d eat there every night of the week if that was possible!

A great little place with a fine selection of great cheese, cold meats, a selection of hot dishes and even desserts. The drinks list is interesting and they offer reasonable prices for the wine. We had six excellent cheeses from Europe and Australia, excellent olives and the superb chicken liver pate. A good bottle of Pinot Noir washed it down. The service was friendly, helpful and tolerant. It was a good night and we will be back.

Food and meat board was really great. Staff were helpful in helping us choose what cheese and meats we wanted. Would suggest to go with slightly more people so you can try more different cheeses! Slightly on the expensive side but would go again (just can't afford to go often)

good vibe, great diversity of cheese meats and wine. Cheese servings a bit small to be honest but the diversity of what they can offer is really good

About the restaurant

Cheesy goodness

Wine & Cheese. The two go hand in hand. And Sydney’s food scene is taking note. Fromageries, wine bars and hybrids of the two are popping up in pockets all over town. The Stinking Bishops is a Newtown cheesemonger-cum-wine bar. Named after a British washed rind cheese, legendary for its hefty pong you won’t find great big glass displays of cheese here. What you will find is a wall of Australian and imported cheese and staff willing to have a chat about them. The eat in menu showcases the cheese products in exciting ways. Take for example their spin on a croque monsieur, made with Gruyere, Barossa Valley smoked wagyu, house-made pickles and horseradish mayonnaise or the the slow-cooked beef cheeks with manchego and creamed corn. More simple options such as cheese and charcuterie boards are also part of the mix. Match these with local wines and you’re in for one perfect cheesy evening. This place is like Willy Wonka’s factory, but for cheese lovers - and it will make all of your fromage dreams come true.

Best dish: mushroom 'Mr Crispy' sandwich - field mushrooms, enoki, thyme mayo and taleggio Cheese
