David Henry is the head chef and is co-owner of the restaurant. His cooking is all about letting the produce do the talking. Great quality proteins, prepared impeccably, bringing out the best in flavours and textures, without overworking. He’s a keen fisherman and is particularly passionate about seafood. He also loves Asian flavours so these also feature amongst his culinary creations.

The atmosphere is friendly yet professional. The food was sensational, all 3 of us loved our choices. Highly recommend the mixed oysters and tooth fish. Allow time to explore the extensive wine list !

We LOVE The Stunned Mullet, and have been eating there since it opened. We stayed three nights in Port Macquarie this trip and ate there on two of those nights! Great food, great wine list, great people.

Al the reviews were spot on - a real gem of a restaurant in Port Macquarie. A lovely area and we will certainly come back to this restaurant when we return in the future. No doubt it’s expensive, but the best things don’t come cheap. But great value at the same time - the tooth fish was a highlight. Fantastic service and subdued lighting gave the place a great intimate feel.

Food was superb! Ambiance, very good, and the service was very good as well. We had oysters 3ways which were delicious. My partner had the Toothfish, and I had Kingfish both of which were exceptional. Will certainly eat here again when we travel to Port Macquarie.

About The Stunned Mullet

Food to shock and awe Anyone who thinks the food in Port Macquarie isn’t world class needs to think again. The award-winning team behind The Stunned Mullet has gone from strength to strength in the decade since they opened, turning out fresh and exciting food for their large base of local (and visiting) fans. The menu is broken up into “the smalls”, “the substantials”, “the incidentals” (ie sides) and “the sweet stuff”, and you could quite honestly just pick a dish by pointing your finger at the menu without looking and know that you were going to be getting something delicious. After all, how can you go wrong with a line-up that includes grilled lobster tail with ajo blanco, green gazpacho and radish, as well as confit duck leg with truffled mash and sour cherry? Or put your meal in the hands of the producers by choosing the “Fishmonger’s Choice” for your main, which will be a piece of sustainable, line caught fish (chosen by the local fishmonger, of course) served with an olive and panko crust on a carrot and lemongrass puree. It will be so delicious you really will be left stunned. Best dish: smoked eggplant terrine
