Meet the Chef

Head chef Ignacio Castells Rusinol is a Barcelona native and was sponsored by Tinto to come to Melbourne to take charge of the kitchen in 2017/18. He did his training in some of the best restaurants in Barcelona before working in the UK and Azerbaijan. He brings with him an intrinsic knowledge of Spanish and Catalan cuisine. His approach is to maintain the authentic flavours of Barcelona but adjust the plates to include the fresh approach our Melbourne customers are looking for.

Dissapointing paella for a Spanish haunt- it lacked taste and was very expensive per person, for a sharing dish, that was mediocre at best. Otherwise the resteraunt is nice atmosphere and the staff very accommodating.

Vino Tinto has an intimate setting, nurturing food with attentive fun staff. There is obviously a lot of intricate thought into the dishes. It's consistently brilliant!

We have been here several times. The food is excellent and this time we had calamari, prawns and zucchini flowers stuff with goats cheese all of which were really good. We decided to try the Paella. We were disappointed. It was all brown. The thin layer of rice was cooked well however the asparagus was very brown, the two small pieces of chicken were overcooked , the one tiny shrimp was shrivelled and there were lots of chorizo pieces which were tasty. The waitress was exceptionally good and made our night. Service was very quick.

Love the variety of tapas and the specials. Anchovies on fried bread with smoked butter was delicious. The restaurant is always busy so pays to book.

Portions are small for what it is. Quality is good. Service is impeccable. In the face of the choice we have In Melbourne, I would dine elsewhere .

About the restaurant

Special Spanish wine bar

Tinto is an authentic Spanish WineBar that brings the flavours and exhilarating atmosphere of Barcelona to the heart of Melbourne’s inner east. The space is small and intimate with a long bar reminiscent of a tapas bar you would find off La Rambla in Barcelona. With many of the staff Spanish speaking, for a second you might actually feel like you’re in Spain, dining out after a much needed siesta. Popular dishes are the classics like croquettes, calamari and Jamon Serrano from the flywheel slicer with many seasonal and modern Spanish dishes on the blackboard. Wash it all down with either local or Spanish wines, and you’re in for one scrumptious Spanish evening. For those who live locally, consider yourself lucky to have such a great neighbourhood gem in your hood.
