Fabulous flavours. Super service. Decadent dishes. Decadent dishes.
The food quality and flavours were exceptional. Loved every dish. Service was excellent with informed and helpful staff. Interesting and diverse food and wine menu. Worth experimenting
Amazing food, Awesome staff and a really lovely ambience. I definitely recommend this restaurant :)
Definately be back, enjoyed every single dish....great service and atmosphere also.
Excellent service from the lady who attended our table, thank you.
Very busy little place. Portions are small but very well executed and tasty. In particular the raw lamb tartare and the Turkish flatbread are must try dishes. Wine is expensive. Cheapest glass 15 dollars. Service is good. Waiters explain everything as the food is put down on your table.
Delicately prepared, beautifully presented, and deliciously enjoyable modern Turkish cuisine.
The waitress from Istanbul was lovely; we reminisced about a previous trip. Food is modern and delicious. Atmosphere is moody. Wine list wide.
The food was fantastic. Well presented and delicious. The service was also very good, the wait staff were very attentive. I would go back for sure
We were disappointed with this restaurant after hearing good things about it. The restaurant was very busy and we felt like we were crammed in. It was very noisy, not an intimate dining setting. The staff were slow to sit us down and also to give us drinks. It took 20 min to get our drinks order delivered. The food was overly sauced and modernized. The portions were meagre and we did not leave the restaurant filled for our $250.
Really delicious and very well presented food, the grains side dish was very ordinary but most other things we ate were really great. Barramundi was a standout, juicy flesh and crispy skin, accompaniments on the dish elevated it further. Would definitely return
The food is absolutely amazing. Delicious flavour combinations. The restaurant has an intimate atmosphere and very attentive service
Interesting food, creative, great service
Staff need lessons in customer service and listen to our requests
Brilliant modern take on Turkish food, every course we had was faultless and delicious. Really impressed overall with the quality of food and service. Had a bottle of Turkish shiraz between 3 of us, which was yum. Will definitely return again
I've been going to Turkey every second year for several decades and, as a food critic and travel writer I've had some absolutely wonderful meals there. Turkish cuisine is much more than dips and kebabs. But most so-called Turkish restaurants in Australia are nothing more than falafel stands. And really good Turkish restaurants are hard to find in Melbourne. The food in Turkey's Ottoman cuisine restaurants has always been delicious . But last night we went to Tulum , an Australia Turkish restaurant that was as good or better than any establishment I have eaten in during my forty years of travelling to that country. It would be very hard to say anything negative about this restaurant. Perhaps the high noise level was a little annoying and they could have tarted it up with white tablecloths and napkins, but that was made up by the fact that everything else was perfect. The food was plated beautifully and absolutely delicious. And the atmosphere, table service and pricing were other pleasant surprises. Forty years ago Turkish wines were atrocious, especially the whites. There has been an enormous improvement in Turkish wine making, and the two Turkish wines we tried at Tulum were outstanding. Tulum is worth travelling halfway across Melbourne for and they will see me very regularly they maintain the high standard in everything they've done. They can be very busy and I will be going there on Tuesdays. Even on this, their slackest day , the restaurant was completely full and booking and it is essential. I understand that Tulum has been voted the best restaurant in Victoria recently and I can find no fault with that judgement. If you have never had a great Turkish meal before, Tulum is a "must" .
A fine dining establishment in Balaclava serving on point refined Turkish cuisine. Menu is varied with good explanation by host as to the menu choices. All dishes are expertly prepared with a great drinks selection to match. Busy for a Tuesday night. Highly recommended.
The food was delicious, the service attentive. There was a lovely vibe in the restaurant. It was a fun an enjoyable evening. The best part were trying all the entrees.
Food is fantastic. Plating is great. Food tastes as good as it looks.
The food and service excellant, setting was very nice. Intimate and nice ambiance. We found the bentwood chairs quite uncomfortable. We would highly recommend
217 Carlisle Street., 3183, Balaclava, Australia
Awarded Turkish eatery Tulum Restaurant is one of our hottest picks this September. Famed for its contemporary approach to traditional flavours, the Balaclava venue delivers artfully modern plates without compromising on authentic Anatolian taste. The restaurant this week reintroduces its à la carte menu. It marks the return of favourites including the rebooted cilbir (delicious burnt paprika butter sauce smothering a poached egg, topped with smoked yoghurt and a milk crumble, to be mopped up with soft Turkish bread), and new additions kaburga (short beef ribs cooked overnight, meyhane bulgur, swiss chards, clove roasted cauliflower puree). Diners will still be able to order from Tulum’s Taste of Turkey rotating set menu, which showcases the culinary hotspots of Turkey in 5 – 8 courses with the option of matched wines
