The food was good, but the stand out was the vegetarian main meal which I wish I could remember the name of! I would return for that dish alone. Great wine suggestions from the wait staff.

7 course degustation provides a great overview of the cuisine and are sensational taste bombs. Our meal ended up being 8 courses as they thought we didn’t like our last dessert so they kindly brought out a rice pudding, but in fact we were full to bursting. However, rice pudding is my husband’s all time favourite dessert so he gladly persevered.

Great atmosphere. Dishes were very well executed and obviously well thought through. Some lacked a bit of contrast in terms of texture but all were tasty. The dish of the day for us was the cumin, aubergine and tahini dessert - amazing!

We had read many positive reviews about Tulum and took the opportunity to book while visiting Melbourne. It did not disappoint! Professional, knowledgeable and friendly staff, exciting and varied menu. We tried 5 different starters and 2 mains, a salad and we ordered all the desserts! Everything was amazing. So much detail in presentation, so many different yet complimentary flavours. Can’t wait to go back!

Melbourne has so many dining options and beautiful restaurants. Tulum, however, was by far one of the best dining experiences of the last few years! Such amazing talent! When you try the food you just know that the chef Uysul pours his heart and soul into each and every dish. Thank you so much, for introducing us to the diversity and richness of Turkish cuisine. Food was SO delicious. We did the 7 courses with matched wine, all which were surprisingly amazing. Didn’t leave feeling sick. Will definitely go back here again ????????

Degustation menu was amazing, the Tahini ice cream is an acquired taste, the service was superb overall with Naida making the evening extra special for us, definitely will go back.

The food was fabulous- we had the degustation and the restaurant catered for those who did not eat meat. Some of the alcoholic drinks were unavailable- no Turkish beers at all, highly recommend for food with wonderful flavours. Everything was special which does not always happen with a degustation

Perhaps expected too much. Food good but not great. Service clearly struggling from popularity following recent #1 review in press. Missing items from drink list. Tried to substitute prawns for sardines from degustation menu. Asked staff what 1 dish was and simply said ‘don’t know’ and left it at that (other staff were better). Small, uncomfortable seats. Good local eatery at best unfortunately.

Tulum has delicious food and flavours, a favourite of ours for sure. It was our fourth visit and we are sure to come back to try more on the menu, and next time we will leave room for dessert!

Do yourself a favor and try this unassuming local gem. Food is full of delicious flavors and textures and very generous proportions for the $$$. One of the standouts in the area - and such a wonderful surprise, great chef. The young girl who serves is very efficient but could do with a little smile coaching though...all in all would not hesitate recommending to anyone that loves middle eastern done really well.

About the restaurant

Awarded Turkish eatery Tulum Restaurant is one of our hottest picks this September. Famed for its contemporary approach to traditional flavours, the Balaclava venue delivers artfully modern plates without compromising on authentic Anatolian taste. The restaurant this week reintroduces its à la carte menu. It marks the return of favourites including the rebooted cilbir (delicious burnt paprika butter sauce smothering a poached egg, topped with smoked yoghurt and a milk crumble, to be mopped up with soft Turkish bread), and new additions kaburga (short beef ribs cooked overnight, meyhane bulgur, swiss chards, clove roasted cauliflower puree). Diners will still be able to order from Tulum’s Taste of Turkey rotating set menu, which showcases the culinary hotspots of Turkey in 5 – 8 courses with the option of matched wines
