Good food, good drink & good music. Though Verandah is best known as a party spot, broadcasting its fun-loving attitude with pumping music and punters lounging over the namesake terrace area, however, it has always had a minor focus on food. With a stylish renovation of the dining space, this food focus has gone from minor to major. The restaurant has become an elegant, streamlined space of polished timber and white linens, dominated by a spectacular wine rack loaded with more than 1400 bottles. The menu has been similarly spruced, now offering a slick, business-lunch-friendly selection of dishes such as smoked duck salad with beetroot, witlof, watercress and hazelnut dressing and braised beef cheek with celeriac puree, baby carrots and sugar snaps. Though the restaurant now presents itself as a fine-dining haven, it hasn’t totally kicked off its heels. In the evenings the tone is that of a sophisticaed wine bar and diners might be more inclined to turn to the tasting menu for gourmet nibbles and matching wines. Best Dish: pork loin with hurb crumbed tomato and watercress salad.
