Good value for money. Friendly staff, nice atmosphere and generous servings. Mentioning how cheap your lunch is because the discount is totally unnecessary.

We ordered barramundi , lamb shank and kids fish and chips . The fish was not too bad but the carrots around lamb was so hard to bite. The worst part was the kids fish . It was the smallest fish I ever seen and it was too salty. Not a happy experience ~

Our second visit and disappointed overall in the food. Had the set menu which was a mistake. Calamari fritti and Burrata very good. The penne not just al dente rather undercooked. Two flabby prawns as a main dish very ordinary. Waiter helpful and wine list good.

My family and I loved the set menu. The food was delicious and plentiful and we enjoyed the attentive and friendly service. Via Alta never disappoints.

I would suggest a la carte menu instead of shared set menu as shared menu did not end up better value and varieties. Nice location and environment though.

We have eaten at Via Alta many times and it has always been excellent. It would appear that the special menu for the 50% discount has resulted in less quality food and smaller servings. Calamari was very tough and fish very small serving and not great quality. We were disappointed as we have always found the food , service & wine in the past to be excellent.

I chose Beef sirloin. It was nearly tasteless and arrived cold. I also had the salad which was Ok. I made a BAD choice. Wife had the prawn dish which was better

We took advantage of a 50% off food promotion at Via Alta - one of our favourite local Italian restaurants. We had the sharing menu for our group of 5 which included a vegetarian - the food was excellent and service fast and it was very good value for money. The gnocchi and steak and broccolini were particularly good - the smoky taste of the steak memorable and the tiramisu was the best I have ever had - we will be back

About the restaurant

Bellissimo Italian amongst the north shore burbs

Via Alta. It’s the kind of restaurant that you will kill to have in your local burb. A friendly, welcoming spot that’s open lunch and dinner, and absolutely nails boisterous memorable Italian cuisine. Yep, you definitely want this trattoria in your hood. Scan the big blackboard menu and begin the difficult task of choosing (good luck!): fritto misto of prawns and calamari, veal ossobucco with saffron and gremolata, baked baccala pie and crumbed and fried Milanese meatballs... the list goes on and on. In our opinion you shouldn't miss out on the meatballs, these bad boys are insanely irresistible and gobsmackingly good. Via Alta is the first bambino of Alessandro Pavoni (of the two hatted Ormeggio at the Spit) and Bill Drakopoulous (of Sydney’s Restaurant Group and Aqua Restaurant Group) who joined forces to bring much needed Italiano life to the north shore dining scene….Bellissimo!

Best dish: mondeghini - crumbed and fried Milanese meatballs made with scotch fillet, mortadella and Italian pork sausage, piled into a tall metal cone lined with brown paper.
