Wharf Rd has marvelously constructed menus which are innovative but, unlike some others, also delicious. On this occasion, Saturday lunch, there appeared to be only one trained server and two willing but only part capable assistants. They were apologetic and cut some items from the bill, which helps suggest this was an exception.

Good attempt but failed on several fronts namely not enough food for money spent on main meal which was supplemented by chips. Fillet steak over cooked could have supplemented with vegetables rather than chips. Goats cheese tortellini was tasty but not large enough for main meal. Same with dessert - very small portions served.

First impression: Nice decor. The charm ends there however. We were provided with the burger/bar menu upon arrival claiming other guests had the menus and that they were printing new ones as the menu had changed. First and foremost, you do not lie to your customers. The restaurant had 4 tables occupied, no menus? Second of all, piggybacking from point one, you are printing new menus yet the two things I ordered are not available!?!?! Last but not least, everyone else at the restaurant that came in after we did was served whilst we waited for our meals. We waited for over an hour to be served before we got up and asked for the bill. To our surprise, two other patrons were also at the bar complaining about their food (raw pork to a pregnant woman) and the terrible service. By 7:30pm the young manager had a hand full of complaints to deal with and had no idea how to manage the situation getting into a spat with one of them. If I could give this place a negative star, I would as it does not deserve a solid one, far less the so called "Chef's Hat." In the end we paid $65 for 4 oysters, 2 pieces of bread 2 glasses of wine and terrible service.

Food was very average, after reading reviews I was really excited to try however was very disappointed. The cut of steak was almost inedible and and flavours very bland. All the elements of each dish didn’t quite go together. The service was alright. The views were nice and the dining room was pretty! Cocktails were reasonable priced too and yum!

Last night we celebrated our 3rd wedding anniversary and we had our wedding reception there at the Wharf Road, 3 years ago, it was magnificent!

About Wharf Rd. Restaurant & Bar

Get out of town The days when cities were the only place you could get a gourmet meal in Australia are well and truly over. The regional food scene across the country, and especially in NSW, is experiencing a boom with restaurants celebrating locally sourced produce popping up all over the place. Wharf Rd. is a perfect case in point. Owned and operated by chef David Campbell and partner Nicole (who won over Sydneysiders with the popular café The Book Kitchen in Surry Hills), this charming restaurant is all about freshness and alone is reason enough to visit Nowra. The menu is constantly changing and offers small plates (such as ceviche salad of blackfish on a salt brick) and large plates (like pulled pork shoulder with pumpkin, pearl barley and aji panca) and “bits on the side” that include duck fat potatoes and heirloom tomato salad. However, the best option is the banquet menu that comes with either five or nine courses. It means leaving the food choices up to the chef – but trust us; you’ll be in very safe hands. Best dish: six hour wood fired, milk-fed lamb
