Interesting place. Don’t expect much of a welcome from host. Waiting staff very pleasant but not over attentive. Food quality is ok possibly on the skimpy side in respect of portion size. Overall a nice experience but would not return. Avoid the hotel bar. They don’t know how to mix drinks only pour from bottles and taps.

All was just perfect ! Food , service , the music was nice with low sound level , nice temperature . May be one default , the chairs are a little bit hard when you stay 2 hours seated on it . I gave 15 % tip because i was very happy ! ROLAND from New Caledonia

We had an incredible experience & wonderful meal here tonight!!! All the dishes were delicately plated with well balanced flavour profiles ???????????????? My all time favourites were the Urimaki rolls and especially the dessert, Mt Fuji Apple - it’s an absolute must try ???? The cocktails were really amazing as well - courtesy of the excellent Mixologists ???? A big shout out to Samson our waiter and to Cameron - your service was second to none & it was an absolute pleasure to have you serve us, and help make my Daughter’s birthday celebrations a memorable one ???? You guys are an absolute asset to Yamagen ????????

The restaurant was so nice and so does the food and staff. We had dinner with my partner on her birthday and we made a right decision coming here. Try the lamb cutlets, they melt in your mouth. Thank you!

Its been my third time visiting this place and I already can’t wait to come back! Not only was the food to die for especially the sashimi tacos, spicy popcorn prawns and wagu beef skewers, the ambience and service delivered was impeccable. This place is a great find if you’re after quality fine dining, a beautiful atmosphere and super friendly service. I would highly recommend Yamagen!!

Yamagen was a very good Japanese restaurant. The decor and ambiance was nothing special, but the food was excellent! My wife and I ordered the pre-planned menu for 2, and it included eight different "share plates". Each item was absolutely perfect! The flavors were so distinct, without being over-powering. I would highly recommend Yamagen to anyone who loves Japanese food.

I first visited Yamagen when it was opened in Brisbane many years ago and then relocated to Gold Coast. This restaurant used to be renowned for serving authentic Japanese food. The dishes that we experienced/tasted last night were Westernized Japanese cuisines. In any case, my family members did enjoy the "different" Japanese dishes.

Good place hanging out with girls. Keep away if you want to find a place to have some good foods. This place is not a traditional Japanese restaurant, I think they should call new Japan-aussi style. Do not recommend omakase, it is just the set menus. Meanwhile, the tastes cannot deserve the price and the score. Takes us 140 pp, but the meal quilty and tastes just deserve 60-80pp. And the worst thing is we can not find somewhere to kill hungry after this two hours horrible dinner. Yes, you are right, still hungry after meal, even girls! and they don’t have Japanese traditional noodles! Like suba and udon! Oh, by the way, the rice of tuna sushi was loose and drop down, you know this shouldn’t take place in a good Japanese restaurant, really disappointed, never back again.

While the food was excellent, it was obvious from the explanation our server, Taylor, provided when we sat down, that selecting a banquet was the only way to go. Unfortunately that meant that because I was on a restricted diet due to recent hospitalisation, the other six could not have the banquet, so we ordered a la carte. The food, 2-3 dishes each, came sporadically (as advised) over the following two hours. The restaurant was very busy and we had to wait over 45 minutes for first drinks, and several prods to our server. If you are going to dine here, bring your patience!

Restaurant is more for drinks and izakaya style food . Definitely not for family as the food took very long to be served . Otherwise food was delicious.

Amazing team... if you want to know about Japanese food and especially sake, ask for Sampson!! Amazing service, Thank you! The food is delicious and the meal takes you on a journey especially with the time Sampson spends explaining things. We're lunch people so ordered the lunch Omakase added 3 dishes and paired it with the dinner sake pairing! Dessert and another sake finished it off nicely. Enjoy!
