Along with neighbouring suburbs, New Farm and Teneriffe, Newstead is a riverside suburb of Brisbane where the vibe is industrial chic. Former warehouses have been converted to pubs and craft breweries, while Gasworks Plaza, 1.7km from Brisbane CBD, is a noted retail and dining precinct. Here you’ll find stylish bistros and cafes built around a decommissioned gasometer.
Newstead is home to lots of cafes, bars, boutiques and shops, as well as parks to laze in with a takeaway latte or a weekend picnic. Walk off your lunch or work up an appetite at the riverfront boardwalk. Take a peek at Newstead House, built in 1846 and the oldest home in Brisbane. Sadly it’s not a restaurant open to visitors, but it’s a fantastic venue to keep in mind for weddings and special events.
