Elizabeth Bay is on Sydney Harbour, just a short stroll down the hill from the bustling Kings Cross area, and the restaurants of Potts Point. Only 3km east of the CBD, it’s easy to get to on foot or use Kings Cross Station. Elizabeth Bay features many heritage-listed art deco apartment buildings.
One of the suburb’s gems is Elizabeth Bay House, once the finest house in the colony with commanding views over the harbour. It was built at “very considerable expense” by Alexander Macleay and eventually pushed him towards ruin. Today the property is run by Sydney Living Museums and is open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Beare Park, located right on the water, is a popular place for locals to spread out and enjoy some space. As well as a few cafes and casual dining options, Elizabeth Bay also features the acclaimed restaurant The Apollo and Gazebo Wine Bar & Dining. There’s also a café on Elizabeth Bay Marina, right on the harbour.
