The suburb of Mascot is located in Sydney's inner-south, 7 kilometres from the CBD. A short drive from the Kingsford Smith Airport, the area has a mixture of residential, commercial and industrial areas. The main shopping centre is on Botany Road. Mascot’s famous banh mi spot is Hong Ha, which has been around for over 30 years. There are plenty more Vietnamese spots in the area. Try Mr Nam for fresh, authentic flavours that reflect true Vietnamese cooking techniques.
You’ll find Mascot’s cafes and restaurants handy if you’re headed to Sydney Airport for a helicopter tour. Or, if the kids are hungry while you’re organising car rental. Fun fact about Mascot. A racecourse previously operated in this area in the early 1900s. The racecourse was known as Ascot, and it was to become the name of the suburb. Postal authorities overruled Ascot, so the council changed the name to Mascot.
